I'm looking for a bushcraft knife. I want a blade between 4 and 4.5 inches. The type of sheath doesn't matter. It has to be $65 and less. Otherwise I would like you guys to throw out suggestions of good bushcraft knives. Thank you for your suggestions.

What does bushcraft mean to you ? This buzz term has been overused to describe any outdoor activity.

$65 doesent get you far.......becker ?

Bushcraft to me is: Making fuzz sticks for a fire, carving, cutting food, breaking down game, cutting. I don't need/want something heavy, because I don't need to chop or baton with this, that's what I have a machete for.

Well then head over to Wally World and pick up two Kershaw Skyline folders. Made in USA, light, flipper, linerlock, tough Sandvik steel and great warranty/service. It will do everything you described and do it well. Or just get one and a Mora if you wanta fixed blade. I believe that if you can't take your edc into the woods and survive with it very efficiently, then you need to find a better edc knife. Sure I have favorites I take specifically to go camping, but I still have my edc knives in my pocket.

Of course I have my edc's with me (Benchmade 551SBKSN & CRKT Apache II), I just want a sturdy fixed blade to take that doesn't weigh 2 pounds (such as my MKIII)

I suggest checking out the Scandinavian-style knives, such as Mora. But for your price range you could go for a mid-range brand, a step up from Mora. Don't know if you can buy a Helle or Karesuando for that, but Ahti, Järvenpää, or Kellam for sure.

The Buck fixed blade knives with the black phenolic handles have been popular outdoor knives since about forever. The 119 Special is the most popular, but I'm fond of the smaller models, the Pathfinder and Woodsman.

There are so many knives out there that meet your requirements, good luck deciding.

I would say ONTARIO RAT TAK I (just ordered one) or a ONTARIO RAT 3. Both right at you price. The TAK is a little longer and I think a little thicker which I like but both are great choices at that price point.

I am not a bushcrafter, though I did do my fair share of camping in my younger days. I have a knife coming that might fit the bill for the knife you are seeking. It is from the Ontario Ranger lineup, and is called the Falcon. It is basically a smaller Afghan. It has a 3 7/8" blade that is 1/4" thick, is flat ground, drop point blade, made from 5160 carbon steel, with black micarta handles, and black coated blade. I would prefer an uncoated blade and I guess the coating can be removed. It will fit your price range if you shop around.

Btw, it comes with a nylon sheath that has a plastic insert, and a pouch on the front.

Well, thank you so far guys, keep 'em coming. I've checked out all the options you've given me so far, they're all good.

Another option is to build your own. Check out Knifekits.com. you can get plenty of different styles for that price and it will be your knife. You can do it with the most basic hand tools and about a days work. They also have sheaths for many of their designs.

try to find a blind horse boat tail scandi on the second hand market?

new they can be had for around 100 bucks, so i'm sure you might be able to find it in your price range used.

I'll go out of the box a bit....

Ontario Ranger Shiv.

It's coated black, it's called "Shiv"....but it's basically a 4 inch spear point scandi with a "macro"-bevel on it....i.e., a "bushcraft" knife.

Get a Mora. Take the remaining $50 and buy a smallish flat diamond hone, a firesteel, and some paracord.

mora classic #1, really cheap (13.50 on amazon), and is great for something that price. It's not built to baton or chop, but if you have a machete this thing will hold up well. However, if you want something a little bit more sturdy you might want to keep looking.
