Bushcraft knife

For hand-forged you can't beat an ML Knives Kephart. It's the ideal "bushcraft" knife in my opinion. If you go production, it's hard to be a Fallkniven F1. Scandi grinds are okay but I'll take a convex myself.

This will be my first convex, how does it compare to say scandi in wood cutting or overall bushcraft? i know scandis cut better in the wood, but mine cant hold an edge at all... and i heard that convex edges hold an edge well, and to keep up the blade, you just need some minor stropping and what not.

As for scandi vs convex, my experience has shown that they're both equal. Neither performs better then the other on wood. I think the reason people tend to think that scandis cut better is because they're easier to sharpen. Once you get the hang of sharpening the convex grind it cuts the same. Better on things like onions where the knife has to pass through the material.

I have zero issues with the convex edge. Sometimes, I prefer it. I do want to try a ML Kephart.

Those ML Kepharts do look incredible. Ive heard a lot of good things about them. Ive always wanted a kephart blade, when i first saw the style, i thought it was ugly, but now i like it for some reason. looks like a very useful blade

Im biased but I would go with a custom from one of the makers on the forum. I own knives from most of the names mentioned and they are all great. It just depends on what style you are looking for.

KFU, I really like your knives. they are beautiful knives. The only custom knife makers i have experience with are Koster and Landi, bought second hand though (go figure!) I love the koster Bushcrafter, but that 3v is terrible to sharpen. but it is worth it once you get the edge sharp. it stays sharp.

Thanks man. The best Bushcraft knives that I own are a Fiddleback Bushcrafter, ML Kephart with longer handle, and Laconico Woods Knife. They are all very different but I like each one for different reasons.

Yeah, Ive contacted Matt from ML Knives just to see what the wait would be on one of his knives, and he said hes booked till december. And most other custom makers have a wait of about three months or so. im sure this isnt news to any of yall, but i dont know anything about custom knife makers. It sure would be a big commitment to get a hand made knife done. But ive heard its worth it. Im planning on getting one someday, but i have limited patience... lol, suspense kills me. I just ordered this Fiddleback Bushcrafter today, and it should be here next week sometime, i still cant wait...

Great choice. Here is mine. I ground mine to a zero convex.

I really like the BRKT Gunny. It batons well it is a great carving/fuzz stick making knife, it can easily take down a 4 inch tree. It has a 3.75 inch blade which I believe is the perfect length for a bushcraft knife.

Yep, looks like it! You will be really happy with it. Some like Andys Bushfinger better due to the pointier tip but I actually prefer the handle on the Bushcrafter better. Different strokes for different folks.

Yep! Thanks so much for all the advise everyone. Ill be sure to post my impressions of the knife. Thanks KFU for the pictures and some info! There are some quality people on this forum!! shoot... now you got me drooling over your knives... will my thirst for knives ever be quenched??

Thanks again guys!!

I'm the first to suggest the simple, yet beautiful and versatile Mora? Oh, wait, was there a must be pricey clause in this post? Less than $20 and worth 100 times more a bad thing?

Im surprised that this is the first mention of a mora! Yeah ive had a few, but ive really gotten into bushcraft, and i think its about time i get a good, handmade knife. I mean look at andys knives.... theyre just beautiful...

That's a beautiful knife you picked. I have a Fallkniven F1 and I really like it, but I would definitely like to pick up a hand-made some time too.

I was really thinking about the F1 at one time, but i heart from Youtuber "virtuovice" that its hard to put a true convex edge on the blade... hes really picky about his blade grinds..
