Howdy! im always on the lookout for a new bushcraft knife... always, i wanted some opinions on what a good bushcraft knife would be. I know there are a bunch of threads on this topic.. but i really would like to find the bushcraft knife to end my thirst for a while... I want an official "go to" bush knife.

My price limit is around $150.
Mainly looking for an 8"-8 1/2" overall knife. 4 inch blade. Id like a 4 1/2" handle.
Scandi or convex edge

I have a Koster Bushcrafter that i dont like that much. doesnt fit my hands at all. I had a Fiddleback forge Bushcrafter that was incredible. it was a little too nice for me, so i traded it. i regret that decision.... a lot....

So what do yall think? Im looking for THE knife. even though we all know that thats almost impossible to come by :D

I hope its ok to post here, whenever i post in General, all i get is "Get a mora" Moras are incredible knives, but not what im looking for.

Thanks!!
Reid

Blind Horse Knives bushcrafter is one of my favorites and can be found for well under 150. It can also be had flat ground or Scandi.

Thanks, i actually just bought a Mark Wohlwend knife a few minutes ago... so i dont need much advice anymore! id like to see this forum continue. i love bushcraft knives!

I'd be looking for another Fiddleback.

Once I find a maker who's knives works for me,

...I tend to go back because I know it works for me.

That said, I think you'll like Mark's work.

I look forward to your opinions on this new knife.

Thanks, i really want to get another fiddleback. Those things are just pricey, and im trying to make room for a new car at the moment, so im going to be forced to wait on getting a fiddleback... those things are sweet..

Go buy yourself about 10 Moras!

Haha! i do need to get another one.. my dog got a hold of my old one and chewed up the handle.... i attempted to re handle it, but the handle slopes to the blade wayyyyyyyyyy too much

A thousand Moras can't replace the joy of using a quality custom knife.

Having a knife that fits you right, and works for your style of usage, can't be beat.

I have found the quality trumps quantity every time.

Have any of yall used a Full flat ground blade for bushcraft or just anything in the woods? Ive used a scandi and convex in the bush, i prefer the convex, ive never used a ffg blade though... Well, i made a feather stick once with my Pm2.

What about a bk16? I love mine and cant think of anything it wouldnt do. Unless your just totally aginst a ffg knife.

the spyderco bushcraft is slightly above your budget though (around $180) but i'd highly recommend that one. it's been my go-to woods knife for over two years now and yes, i've handled a fiddleback forge arete before too (the handle is a tad too skinny/not enough side palm swell for me).

Those bk16s are great looking. i got to handle one at SMKW the day they came out. i was surprised how great the ergos were

Jv3 - The spyderco Bushcraft has always been up there in my "wanted" list. i just havent gotten around to it. The handle looks super comfy..

Check out the Entrek Forester. Woodsmonkey liked it a lot.

+1. The forester blew me away. The 440c acts like 01 that doesn't rust. I picked it up as a backup winter time knife and it's all I want to use now. I own a spyderco bushcraft and I find the forester much better for bushcraft tasks and it weighs less. The handle is quite robust and at its mid point bigger than the spyderco bushcraft. It sure isn't as pretty as the spyderco, but the straight handle with nothing even close to a choil makes many grips very easy. I love both knives but I've had a hard time putting the forester down. I batoned the forester a bunch just to test it and it still Push cut paper after. I still can't believe 440c performs like it does on the forester, ray really knows how to heat treat.

Was just about to suggest this. Haven't had mine for very long yet, but it's handled everything I've thrown at it so far.

I like the Becker's, but don't see the BK16 in the same league as dedicated bushcraft knives.

That secondary bevel and blade coating just does not work for me like the highly polished zero edge I prefer.

I can see Full Flat Grinds working as well as Scandi, as long as the edge geometry is the same.
