Bushcraft knife?

I like the Becker's, but don't see the BK16 in the same league as dedicated bushcraft knives.

That secondary bevel and blade coating just does not work for me like the highly polished zero edge I prefer.

I can see Full Flat Grinds working as well as Scandi, as long as the edge geometry is the same.

Yeah i had to take the coating off of my Izula 2 because it caused too much friction against the wood

One of my favorite things about the BKTs is that they're easy to customize to suit your needs. 15 minutes in a puddle of Klean Strip and a little time with some sandpaper and they're as smooth as can be. I'm sure it wouldn't take someone with a little experience and the right tools (or sandpaper + patience) too long to convex the edge either. Haven't attempted it myself, but it's on the to do list.

But with a budget of $150 and so many amazing custom knifemakers around that can make you exactly what you want, I'd probably go that route myself.

Thats my dream knife. I havent seen any Arete's in any of Andy's recent batches. I really want one..

Whoever designed it must be a genius.. :D

Have I shown you this one:

The sheath wasn't cheap - but the maker is a really awesome guy - so I don't mind paying him.

Yeah, thats what ive heard. i really might need to pick up a sheath from him if he takes any orders.

Guy is a slacker - and he separated his shoulder. He may be up and running soon.

Ouch! i separated my shoulder playing football before. Trainers didnt believe me, so i had to play with it. So painful to move even the slightest inch. I also made the poor decision of trying to swing a golf club two weeks after the injury. Dont do that..

Where do you go to order Mark Wohlwend Knives?

He has a subforum on here in the Hosted knife makers forum. You can email him to order knives, or sometimes he posts some for sale that he finished on his subforum.

Wow! 2 pages into a bushcraft knife thread and no one has recommended the Fallkniven F1? Great knife, but not everyones cup of tea. If you want carbon steel and wood handles you'll need to look elsewhere, but if stainless and rubber and a blade a bit on the thick side is Ok it's a tough knife to beat for $115.

Ive heard a lot of great things about the F1, but after talking to virtuovice on youtube, i am just not sure about them. for the price, im going to have to get one sooner or later, but virtuovice said that he believed the blade geometry is not to his likings. but he is the only person ive heard say anything bad about that knife. Im gonna pick one up one of these days. its a pretty cool knife! and i love VG-10 steel.. Thanks for the recommendation!

BK16. Another vote for this one.
I have had my full flat ground version for about 3 days...its a great knife. I stripped it the first day, reprofiled the edge, and its fantastic. I did some more mods, but thats a another thread on its own.
Anyways...the new line from Becker are pretty tough to beat at the current price point!

Never owned a Becker knife. the price for the Bk16 seems really good, I think that knife would be a great backpacking blade, as well as an all around woods knife.

Just cuz you asked... I have 'several' (too many if you ask the wife) Fiddleback, and I do love the knives and handles. They are great knives that will put in the work and still look purdy! Having said that, I also own 3 Beckers and think that they are great knives also. I have a BK2, BK7, and BK14. I stripped the finish from them and forced a patina with mustard. Those knives will put in overtime, hold and take an edge pretty well and are budget-minded bushcrafters. Custom knives are great if you have the money to spend, but there is no shame in a solid, well made production knife. Is the fit and finish going to be what you had with your FB? No. Is the edge geometry going to be as consistent as a custom makers? No. However, you can rectify both problems with some wet/dry sandpaper and a little elbow grease. I do not yet owner any of the Becker 'tweeners' (BK15, 16 or 17), but at their price point, I will! Have fun and cut and chop with what you can!
