I'd like a survival skill book, or manual. I'd like it to have pics, more on the larger side. If it could be bought at barnes n noble that'd be great but I dont want to sacrifise a good book just because you walk in a store to get it.

Paperback. Also those people in Austin area, if you know any good ones in book people let me know.

I want it to have things like knots, traps, fire building, and shelter building.

John wiseman's SAS survival guide is a good one, some stuff is a bit odd, but I've learned a lot from mine, its a good general book. Most any book is just the basics, you try the technique, and then make it work, not read, and win.
after that I'd add a local plant/ fungi guide.

I just finished the Survivor man book dubbed "Survive!" and i did not really like it, Not because of anything he wrote, Les knows his stuff, but i didn't like it because of the way he writes, and the fact that its all just a summary of his show. So if you have watched every episode, as i have, i would skip it...

Here is my favorite survival book, and a really good read

The Zombie survival Guide

The SAS survival guide is probably one of the best all-rounders. Don't get the pocket edition if you want pictures.

Mors Kochanski's Bushcraft is a good one if you realyl want mostly bushcraft stuff, but is geared more towards northern forests.

A field guide of edible plants is a must -- try to find one specific to your region.

Not books, but I recommend you get some of Ron Hood's videos, study them and practice the things therein.

Probably the best bushcraft book is your own.
read the others, practice what is applicable and write your own notes/drawings on what works in something like a Rite-in-the-Rain notebook (waterproof) and take it with you.
