I very much like the looks of this blade and have for a long time. Full tang 01 with what appears to be a beefy and well rounded handle. Pricey, but so is a Skookum or barkie, etc.

But who here has one? How do you like it? How's it handle, how's it feel compared to some other common blade(s)?

Thanks much amigos-

Doesn't Dan Koster grind those blades for them?

The handle looks really comfortable. Cooler than a Mora being full tang and all.

i have somhing similar coming from brian andrews. I think he plans on adding it to his line, so , if you were thinking about it, maybe wait and check out brians. similar and cheaper and it would be from a forum member.

i like how the handle comes above the axis of the spine of the blade. that feature is essential to a comfortable handle IMO. i dont know if i am crazy about the little thumb-divot. it isnt necesary for the chest lever grip (although it is handy) and it would seem like it would get in the way. there is a guy on youtube who uses one pretty frequently, i think he may have done a review. all in all, a cool knife. do you know how thick the handle is?

I've looked at those too. They look really nice but a little too pricey for me.

That handle does look really comfy. I didn't see who makes it. Would someone mind letting me know?? thnx

i have handled one of these and it was fantastic in most every way. were i in the market for another scandi however i would look elsewhere. personally at 3.9mm thickness it far exceeds what i would prefer. if price point is not an issue (which i can assume it isn't given your interest) then the only downfall i could imagine for myself would be the thickness. ofcourse Dan does great work and the grind is perfect. the F and F is great as well.
in short i found it to be everything it claims and appears to be. though i did not get to use it extensively. thickness was the only thing i personally took issue with and that is preference and up to you.

The weight is in the handle and it feels strong in your hand like the heavier solid knife it is. I like it a lot.

I purchased the knife with a kydex sheath so don't blame my homemade sheath on Bushcraft NW.

I've been eyeing those too Spooky.
thanks Russell for the info from someone who has handled one.
Anyone else with some hands on?
Man what is Brian doin in this direction. His grinds are dead on. I have had two of his blades and loved them both. Wish the handle on the bushcrafter had worked for my hand. The blade geometry is spot on. The only other I have seen that is like that is a Berrie Garland at about $200 more...
be safe...

An after thought.

The Bushcraft NW blade about 1/2" shorter with thickness identical to the Koster knife. The BRKT Bravo 1 is not quite twice as thick.

Weight is:
Bushcraft NW 6.2oz 225g
Koster (ntl. micarta) 5.2oz 145g
Bravo 1 (orange g10?) 8.2oz 225g

I agree that 3.9mm us too thick, I've emailed him about interest in making a 3mm version. But first I'd rather see what Brian cooks up!

I've got one, in fact I have the first one that Dan Koster did the grind on. I (pats self on back :D) suggested to Mike he get in touch with Dan on the grind (the originals had uneven grinds with micro bevels).

This knife has one of the most comfortable handles I've ever held. Mine has a high bevel (compared to any made after it) and cuts like a demon, so the thickness is unnoticed compared to a Skookum or any model Mora . Mike (Lummio) is a great guy selling a great product, if you like this style of knife and have the means I highly recommend buying one :thumbup:.

You can buy one of Brian G Andrews and have $30 left over, I know where my money would go !!!

Brian, point out if I am incorrect. Your knife is base priced with micarta. Wood scales are an additional charge and the cost of a sheath is also an additional charge.

Out of curiosity, do you have to add on charges for a shorter blade and what do the cost of pins run?

I sent you a PM. I don't want to side track the thread too much.

I can only speak from dealings with Mike at Bushcraft Northwest. He is a great guy to deal with and honest as can be. He also thoroughly uses every piece of equipment he sells. I would probably pick up one of those knives if I didn't already have that niche in my equipment filled.
