I'm looking to get a Koster knife and aren't sure which one to get. I really like the design and reviews of a Nessmuck, but think the Bushcraft may be an all arund good knife for hikes.

What are your experience with these? Which would you get and why?

j williams is asking the most important question...what do you plan to use it for? Unless you plan to do some serious bushcraft tasks, the Nessmuk is a more well-rounded camp knife in my opinion...of course, my last trip I carried both:D

SBT and a Fiddleback Nessie...

If you have a decent folding knife to do camp chores, then the Bushcraft would be a good option as well...I have Koster's Bushcraft and it's a great little blade...but what do you want for a hiking knife?

I agree. I think the nessie is a better camp knife. Not basing the bushcrafter, they are great too. I would just take his nessie over the bushcraft, I think its more versitale, and it fills my hand better.

Man, that osage is aging well. I love how it looks as it browns out.

Thanks for that pic Rock!

Bushcraft all the way for me, but that's just based on what I use a knife for in the field. Everyone is right, it's all in what you want it to do for you. If you are going to be whittling, making traps, etc. then go for the bushcraft. Nessie is probably a better all around camp knife. I say get them both if you can.

Wow, tough choice. Nessie can be a spoon as well as a knife....Bushcraft is just all around excellent...man! tough decision! Get both, I can't make up my mind! LOL

I just got a Koster nessie. I love it. I have an F-1 which is my bushcraft knife. That is a tough choice.

One thought to consider, is maybe a SAK or a small neck knife could be supplemented for the bush craft and carried with a nessie. So all bases would get covered.

Good andy, I was startin to worry bro;)

No worries!! I've got a lot of knives ground and ready for heat treat this weekend.

9 Bow Legged Joes
4 EDC's
5 Bushcrafters
5 Bushcrafter Jr's
4 Nessmuks - orders already taken

Well I am looking for an all around camp knife, not that I don't already have several of them ;)

I really like the looks of the Nessy. Is there anything a Bushcraft can do that a Nessy can't?

Bushcraft knives are better at drilling because of the point, and usually have a thicker blade, so they're stouter.

Well. If you want to start a fire with a bow drill, for example you need a divot to use on your hand hold, and also a drill hole and notch in your bottom piece too.

Also, if you brought your lady friend along... Oh. Nevermind.

If all you plan on doing is camp then a nessie is the right tool for the job, but if you think you may end up in an enviroment that may require some survival skills than the bushcraft would be the prefered knife. In any event both tools will cut slice and baton its all comes down to how well skilled you are.

This is a great suggestion.

I would simply carry a Machete or Axe if I needed anything larger than my Bushcraft. I have to tell you though - I have a Bushcraft in S3V that I have been putting through the paces the last few days. Man that steel is amazing and the knife is just about perfect!

Get a good steel on whatever knife you order - it will be more expensive - but worth it.
