Bushcraft pics part 3... an alternative to the fig 4 deadfall trigger...

Man, my pals grandma made the all time GREATEST squirrel dumplin soup. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Squirrel is VERY tasty as is rabbit!

Hmmm... Rabbits and squirrel do run rampant in my backyard, but I'm not sure if I can stomach the decapitation, gutting, and skinning of Thumper and Rocky when I can just walk inside my house and grab a frozen pizza.

Like you, I'll stick with just practicing.

And thanks for link to the vid, "Baller"

Haha I was just about to ask for a video, but I was thinking it would be asking a bit too much.

I take it that the last two steps are to place the log on the top stick while holding the toggle in place with your free hand, and then you set the horizontal bait stick?

Once you wrap that toggle around the support stick everything will lock in place. You can hold that with one hand easily (remember the weight is now on the toggle). Then with your other hand you can set the trigger stick.

Ideally I would want about 3 of those logs lashed together to give a larger "smoosh pad" :). If you did that, balance would not be as big an issue.

Paiute deadfall is the name of the trap, but it is very similar to a figure 4

Yep, that's it.. you may notice my toggle is done ever so slightly differently... but yep, that's the idea!

One reason it probably took him 10 attempts is that his top piece is angled so it makes it a little harder. mine is pressing down a bit more... his more straight...

Nice one, I think I'll try one ...
There was a video showing someone setting up a pheasant trap with a figure four, supporting a cage on it ...
and pheasants unlike chicken or rabbits won't dig themselves out of it.

thanks for actually putting pics instead of just a paragraph discription:thumbup: im trying that next time im in the woods, knife working skillz are something i dont have.:D
