I have been falling behind for a while..I have a ton of knife projects that are unfinished..and I dont ever get enough time or energy to get to them...these are some great tools that need some attention.

Does anyone else have any projects going that arent getting anywhere. Gene

I got a bunch of sheaths to do, but not the money to buy the supplies I need. A knife blank to handle, on the plus side, I did just finish handling another blank yesterday, it's soaking right now.

Looks like you've got some interesting projects there, you better get to work.

I just got Tram Machete from RescueRiley that I need to convex and mod a little. I have no time as of late, but will get on it eventually.

What are you thinking about scales for the Trailmaster? Is it possible to remove the guard, might be cool.

Soaking? Would this be linseed oil, or something else?

I've got a few blanks to handle, and a bunch of sheaths to make. So far I've done two sheaths. I'm not sure if I'll improve, or just convince myself to buy sheaths from guys who know what they're doing. So far it's been sheaths for Moras and such that don't justify the cost of a custom sheath.

I see that Trailmaster with a stacked leather sheath and some black, red, white spacers.

Great photos Gene..

Looking forward to the final product

Hope all is well Bro

Sounds good, what about the butt of the knife? Aluminum, Antler, Mycarta????

I was looking at my 12" Tram today, I convexed it and sanded the handle, I love it, a really great bargain, and one heck of a chopper. Gene

Awesome! I can't wait to see results. Love those old Norlunds. Neato.

looks like a nice set of projects to work on...

loving that adze, sweet piece.

good luck on getting them done!

i don't really have any projects going on at the moment, but once i get back i intend to get some more blades together and get them off to paul bos.

I am thinking leather washers and soe kind of Antler or something on the butt...I like the traditional look right now.

First a 2-3 day soak in 50/50 linseed and turpentine. Then a 2-3 day soak in a 20/40/40 mix of pine resin, linseed and turpentine.

The first soak, gets really deep into the wood, the second soak doesn't go quite as deep, but gives it a great waterproof, and tacky coating. It's a pretty bullet proof finish that doesn't loose the character and feel of the wood. And the slight tackiness gives a sure grip when working around blood and water.

I've been using a fir handled knife with this finish pretty hard, with lots of time around water cleaning fish, carving, etc. and the handle is no worse for wear, even when it gets real dirty, just rub it down with some water, and it's good as new.
