Can anybody give me 2 or 3 good books on basic bushcraft or survival skills? I want something easy to digest and very practical. I don't need to know how to survive a zombie virus outbreak, or an alien invasion. Just the basics like fire-starting, shelter building, navigating and 'tricks of the trade'.

Thanks in advance!

Larry Dean Olsens Outdoor Survival Skills has more in depth and primitive skills, but it's a true classic.
Cody Lundin's 98.6 has all the basics laid out, great book.

What do folks think about Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski? I've seen it pictured in some threads here.

Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski is the best surivival book out there in my opinion its a great read and tell nothing more than bushcraft

Think I should pick it up even though I already have the other two ordered? Does it cover anything major that the others don't?

Definitely, I'd say my top 4 are
SAS Survival Handbook
Bushcraft
Naked Into the Wilderness Vol 1
Naked Into the Wilderness Vol 2

Lofty Wiseman's book is excellent, but caveat: there are some improvised uses of antifreeze that will not work with the American formulation of antifreeze. Petrol standards and mixes, and other automotive details, differ. This same caveat goes for other survival books written in Britain regarding this.

I'll post more on this when I have a chance, unless someone else would like to jump in.

SAS Survival Guide (they also make a small copy thats great for your pack)
& Cody Lundins 98.6 Degrees for straight Forward survival.

Two Great Books

My favourite is still Bernard S Mason's classic 'Woodcraft and Camping' (and I know it's one of Ray Mears'.)

A great book that is easy to read and has excellent info and pictures "How to stay alive in the woods"
the Book is Green rubber coated hardback book with letters in Orange, I picked one up at Barnes & Noble ..Excellent book !
