Bushcraft / Survival knife

Cold Steel Bushman is a great all purpose Outdoor Survival/works for most stuff knife that runs about $40 tops. Cool and almost invincible.

I have (2) BK-2s, but they are heavy - you will get fatigued over time, unless you have ridiculous pipes for that .25" 1095.

I highly recommend the BK-16. The ergonomics are fantastic, it's ~$60-$65, so you could get three of 'em for $200. Hell, you could do a BK-9 for your chopping, and a BK-24 in D2 for you smaller tasks (and STILL have $50-$70 bucks leftover).

I don't have a lot of experience with high-end knives, but I can tell you that I kick ass with food prep and bushcrafting on the cheap with my Beckers. I shit you not, I cut down a tree with my BK-2 last week and used it to dice vegetables afterwards.

Beautiful work, great looking knives.
I like style and design that doesn't look like everything else.

I like all kinds of knives. From the the well built no frills Becker's on up to the high dollar ones. After reading your post I'll definitely be getting some soon.

I like to carry a big 'survival' (read wood-processing) knife and a smaller 'bushcraft' (carving and other finer tasks) knife when in the woods. Generally I also carry a saw for cutting up larger pieces of wood. You can get mid-sized knives that are capable in both roles but they won't do either as well as the more specialized knives. It really comes down to how much weight you can/want to carry. If weight was not an issue I'd be carrying a splitting maul and a 30" bow saw with me. :D

I agree with you about having multiple knives.
My idea is to have the Bravo 1.5 and then have a Bravo Necker sheath attached to it. I even thought about having an entire survival system based off the Bravo 1.5.
Like the 1.5 with the Necker attached to it. On that have a pouch for a survival tin. All of that would be heavy so instead of having it on your belt I want to have a strap on it across your chest and hang at your waist. It's called a baldric strap.

Sounds very handy. For me I'm usually hiking when carrying these kind of blades, so I have a big knife in my pack and smaller ones on my person. The big knife comes out when I stop to make fire and/or shelter.

I got this blade from Ragweed Forge for ~$40, added the scales, made with scrap wood for now. It was an aesthetic/finesse upgrade to my HighQ Allaround mora, which costs $10 at Ragweed. Both are great for detail work.

For just cutting, ragweed forge has Moras and some great old time looking pieces for great prices. They are about 1/16 steel but sharp! I gave one to a friend who is a civil war re enactor, he had a sheath made for it and he often uses it in camp when they have living history displays. I like the large roach belly myself. My favorite all time camp knife has to be a Hudson Bay knife, I have two varying blade thickness ones from ML knives.

With a budget up to $200, you have a lot of choices out there... you could get several factory knives for that amount, or a very nice custom from one of the makers here on BF or the net.
I am partial to the custom choice :)

Gso 4.1 or 5.1 by Survive! Knives are extremely well made and they fit the bill for what your wanting to accomplish and your price range. Also I have a bk 16 and bk2 with upgrades and they cost less than the esee models which are basically the same knives once you through micarta on the beckers

I am now the proud owner of Bark River Bravo 1.5 with matte black G10 handle scales. Loving the convex edge so far too.

This thread has been really helpful, as I'm looking for pretty much the same thing and the Bark River Bravo 1.5 and Survive! 5.1 have been my top 2 contenders. Any pics of your new Bravo 1.5 possible?

I'm hoping to revive this thread. I was going to get the GSO 5 from survive knives but they don't have any in stock. What do you guys think of the M3 from Lionsteel?
