Bushcrafting with Beckers.

It gives me hope to see someone your age out doing this. Reminds me of some fond memories from when I was younger, and the fun I had in the woods. Looks like you guys have a heck of a nice area to play in, and I am definitely jealous.

Very nice. I tried pine needle tea once. Didn't like it. Maybe I just didn't make it right? I d'know...

Great photos, looks like you had a blast. Takes me back to my scouting days. Thanks for sharing bud!

Maybe some of those wild scallions for tea. Mint sounds nice.
I tried pine needle once - just nasty. 'Course, I didn't have any sugar handy.

Noticed the "interesting" scales on the 16 - but I didn't want to say anything. I've made my own and know what it's like - they look like they work - so enjoy!

I'm just jealous - looks like a great time. Trying to convince my kids that a day in the woods playing with sticks and dirt is fun as well as educational, not work, or "Boring"...

Hey Mountain Mist.......

What a great post....... Good pix, good skills,a little something new for a lot of people and what looks like a great time....Thanks for letting us come along....... I really enjoyed it.......

I have a pine needle tea tip for anyone interested.

In my opinion, boiling the needles makes the tea bitter and not as good. I prefer to bring the water to a boil, remove from fire and toss in the needles to steep in very hot but not actively boiling water. Using too many needles to water can make it taste bad as well. You wouldn't put 4 tea bags in a cup of water and expect it to taste good.

This looks like a great time! Thanks for sharing!
your welcome

Great pics! very jealous of your backyard... but I have to say that your hand looks more wrinkled than my grandma's.. time for some gloves or lotion. :D

Good to see you're having some fun.

But think about all the Vitiamin C you'd be missing? ;) It is just something to keep stored "upstairs" if and when you might need it. I would prefer to just take a couple of Lipton tea bags with me. But I know... it's survival!

I feel sure when I was a kid that we (my brothers and I) would have been doing stuff like that out in the woods. We found a little spring out in the woods and spent days digging it out and fixing it up where it was easy to get a cool drink. Survival skills.... The big event.... live out in the woods and survive was always in the back of our minds. Shelters... did those. We were too poor to own a camera. Cell phones? What's that? (They didn't exist yet.) Maybe a WWII vintage radio, a couple ammunition boxes, and our favorite gas mask bags... Stuff was really cheap then.
