Bushcrafting with the RC-4 (Pics)

So how do you like the rc-4 compared to the rc-3? Is there much change in performance between the sizes?

The RC-3 feels a little more handy and is lighter. The RC-4 is a good solo knife with a longer blade that allows larger pieces of wood to be split with a baton.
Both are very able and I could never pick a favorite.

How does that handle feel Bear?

All the Rats I have tried the handles were too thin and the edges way too steep to be good carvers. Looks like you are doing ok with that though:thumbup:

The handle on the RC-4 feels quite comfortable in the hand but it still could be a little on the short size for someone with large hands. I have medium-large hands (I wear large latex gloves if that is an indicationt to anyone but the mediums are too small) and the handle length feels just about perfect for me. The thickness of the handle is also comfortable, particularly with the integrated guard.

This is an old post, cool to see still alive. The RC-4 handle is simple and comfortable. My cousin is visiting me for a while from the midwest and I got almost all my knives I had at the time (2 months ago) and he picked the two most comfortable handles in this order.

1.ML Kephart
2.RAT RC-4

I like the handle and I hear you Hollow about the thin handle on the RC-3 but the thicker 3/16-inch on the RC-4 fills the hand much better.

The last picture in the first post at the begining of the thread is one of the pictures they used in the current (Aug) SWAT Magazine article on the RC-4.

I finally bought an RC-4 to see what all the hullabaloo was about. I was pleasantly surprised at what a nice knife it is. It feels good in your hand, and the texture of the scales provides a non-slip grip. Nice blade shape. Looks very solid and well made. Nice sheath. It definitly looks more tactical than my Barkies but would be a trustworthy companion in the woods. I bought one in tan which I have not seen posted on this forum. The color appeared a little green tinged under fluorescent lights when it arrived at the office, but looks fine in the sunlight. I think some of the other workers were a little green too when they saw me handling the knife.

When I first got my RC4, it felt kinda off in my hand and I was skeptical about how much I would end up liking the knife.

I've been using it quite a bit over the last few weeks and It's become very comfortable and natural in my hand. It has no noteable hotspots and never leaves me with any blisters or discomfort.

At least you recognized you were bringing up a ghost Jeepnut!!

Texastony - Either your photobucket account has gotten mixed up or you were high when you posted this :D :D If it was the former, at least it only showed what a wonderfully attractive family you have. I imagine a random photobucket scramble could lead to some really embarrassing posts for some of us :D
