Tried a new experiment today....I made Bushkabobs for dinner. They turned out pretty good too!

First I made the skewers from some hedge trees in the area.

Then I set up a wind brake around my fire and grilling area and laid the fire with split apple wood on bottom and then I got the fire going before I started prepping the food. The wood was damp so it didn’t burn too quick. I love the smell of apple wood burning.

This is the veggies I started with, some mushrooms, bell pepper, tomatoes, onion, and potatoes, and the skewers.

And then on the fire

Thirty-five minutes later…dinner time. I even whittled out some chopsticks to eat with, my oldest even liked it lol.

That looks YUMMY!!!

Awesome job on the skewers, and a great idea. Very unique, two thumbs up!!:thumbup:

Shouldn't have clicked the link in front of my mom. She told me I had to do that when it got warm out again.

Looks delicious, looks like you gave me something to do in a couple of weekends :)

landar, ignore pictures 1 & 3

meant to say make the skewers one day and let them dry for a couple of days else the sap will cook into the meat. I just let these dry from one morning till the next afternoon, but I'm used to using hedge for cooking sticks and don't mind it but for some it is bothersome. Don't want them too dry though.

Thanks all, glad you liked it

Mistwalker, I've got a bit of a contest going on here is the W&SS forum. Feel free to enter it, since it was your great photos that got it all started:thumbup:

mmmm looks good. The fact that you have your teenage something daughter is a real testament to your cooking, or your parenting or the two combined :D My daughter would probably roll her eyes at the whittled chopstick thing. Now if they came from her boyfriend that would be a totally different reaction ;)

Thanks, Yeah...she's a sophomore this year but she still loves her dad's cooking. She did giggle at the chopsticks, but she's been using chopsticks for years. The only thing she rolled her eyes at was that I used no spices on any of it, it was all natural so of course she immediately went and found a salt shaker.

Man, it's sad but true...once they hit a certain age anything from a boy is going to be more special even if you already gave 'em the same thing years before.

Forgot to mention this earlier...actually she, like me, has a great interest in cooking. I strive to keep her mind open in this subject and she actually helps me a lot.

Looks mighty fine. One of my favorite parts of camping etc is cooking over a fire. I think we're on the same page, mistwalker, if you use good fresh ingredients, you don't need much if any spices.

Excellent job, mistwalker. Making me hungry right now (11:33 pm) :(

Doc

Thanks, sorry about that. At least you just looked over it for a minute...we had to watch and smell it cooking and wait. I was glad the kabobs don't take as long as whole hens.

Thanks, That was my thought, plus the smoke from the apple wood too...I liked it just fine the way it was. though I did wish I had some garlic cloves to try to put in there somewhere. I like garlic and it's good for you as well. Definitely growing some this year.

Nice job, Mist. I expect that in the not too distant future, there will be pictures of you cooking with a wok! :D
