I finally bit the bullet and got the higher end bush ranger as it was on sale at the biggest box store.

I've had the entry level one and found it clumsy to open and too stubby and shortish lookin and kinda silly lookin once I got it in person. so it kept me from spending more on the upgraded one. thinking the knives were identical in every way but materials. then kept reading how folks loved their upgraded ones....so finally bought one.

boy was i wrong on the upgraded one.

the upgraded is stubby but no where near the stubbyness of the entry level one. while they looks similar a bit in pics, side by side the upgraded is much more pleasing to the eye and narrower in a good way. In the hand feels great compared to the entry. its almost a shame the entry has the same name.

anyways rambling over. grab one if ya were thinkin bout it. its taken over my pocket last couple days and not been bumped out yet.

I have been carrying the one I got far more than any other folder since.

Everything about it works for me as a work EDC.

The only negative I have found is the blade rattles side to side when closed. It has a ton of play. Once opened and locked...it’s rock solid. This happens on the two I have. That said...I love the design.

For a thick beefy blade it cuts pretty decent, and with that tip has survived hard tip work.

I like this knife very much, I just wish it was a half to an inch longer in the handle and the blade as well. It's a little toad though and operates very nicely and I do like the thick tip as well. You all should try the AD10 if you like the BR it's even better Imho. I'm glad we have a big choice in knives these days, just need more $$.

Very odd that it has play. Have you tried tightening the pivot?

I got to handle the "lite" version , because they sent the wrong one first time . I was too upset to really check it out , but not too impressed . :(

It might be fine for the money , but the original is just SOOO much better , IMO .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I've got small side of medium male hand size and for me this knife fits like it was custom made for me . :):thumbsup:

I do understand that bigger hands wouldn't be as happy .

I think the compact size , along with "hard use" construction is much of what sets this one apart . I'm just sorry it doesn't fit everyone as well as me .

Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words about the Bush Ranger. Probably my favorite of the knives I’ve designed with either the Colossus or Storm Cloud tied for second. I definitely agree that the “lite” version is not treading in the same waters as the high end version. I was always a fan of the old fixed blade Bush Ranger and definitely drew inspiration from it in this design. I hope they serve you all well.

I really like the Bush Ranger. The design of the Storm Cloud looks great and I really wish I had picked one up before prices increased.

What other CS knives did you design?

I designed and prototyped the following: Colossus, Khan, Immortal, Storm Cloud, Bush Ranger, Bush Ranger Lite, and the Luzon series. I’ve also added my 2 cents to various other CS products over the years. During my time at CS I had the pleasure of working along side Andrew Demko for the last 12+ years.

Wished CS produced a normal G10 version of the storm cloud, perhaps with clip or spear point. I would even take a cheaper AUS10A version. It’s such a great design and the size is perfect.
Thank you! I really saw potential in that design and would’ve loved to have a clip point version as well as having the scales be matte and not glossy.

thanks for coming by this thread and putting your input in, Sir. I did not know you designed this knife or the others. I own a couple of your designs. good stuff. the upgraded bush ranger is my favorite though. its one of my favorite folders.

Thanks jbmonkey. I really appreciate the kind words. I’m very lucky to have (IMHO) one of the coolest jobs on the planet.
