Bushtucker Man

I really enjoyed watching the bushtukker man.
I want to go to austrailia one day and enjoy shows like this.
Same as the old barefoot bushman shows

Les Hiddens is still out there... I'm a big fan.

He worked on a few survival PAMs for the Australian Army, basically like our new Tyvek E&E maps... a map on one side, edible plants and survival tips on the other.

He is living in the north of Australia in a "Vietnam Veterans Community" and he is active in veteran's affairs and rights.

He used to drive a kickass Perentree Land Rover model. Neat hat.

I see photos of 400$ Busse's in their respective forums, nice and shiny, stuck into a piece of wood. It makes me shake my head knowing that's as close as they get to real use.

There is a large collective market for most knives with a significant dollar value, especially Busse because they produce in short runs so there is a lot of reselling on the secondary market. Some people have made a lot of money basically being a part time dealer buy buying a lot of these knives on the short runs and relling them for a significant markup.

However Busse Combat / Swamp Rat have a very high percentage of actual users. If you compare pictures of knives from these companies you find a lot of them with severely worn coatings and other signs of obvious use. Compare that with common complaints/issues like scratches when sharpening which is common on other similar priced knives.

Thanks for the update Doc - I was wondering what he was up to. Is he living up on that land granted to the vets in the Daintree?

Don't quote me, but I believe he is.

We're traveling to OZ in February, up and down the east coast, ending up in Taz. Meeting some fellow veterinarians along the way, I'm going to be packing a couple of copies of COL Hidden's books, and following the trail to find him. :D

If you find any survival pams from 1987 or so, he's one of the authors. I'd like one, if you can any up...
