$500 for a big Busse knife isn't exactly expensive in the world of big knives and big Busse knives in particular. have new BMs ever sold for less than $400?

So the only ones in that list that sold for over $400 were the FBM LE, Sage Fat FBM, and NMFBM LE. Only one of those is a combat grade. I think the NMFBM CG was probably over $400 as well, but there you're talking about a signficantly longer blade PLUS the extra cost of all the machining for the meltdown finish.
I know I personally grabbed an FSH from Blade West for $372, with magnum handles, which are usually around a $30-50 upgrade. So that puts it pretty close to the 2004 retail price of an FSH ($327)
I stick by my guns - $500 would be absurd for this blade.
