Bushwacker or FBM CG.

A machete will chop thick hardwood just fine - you just need good technique for it.

You gotta understand something when asking for opinions around these parts - as a group, the HOGs are generally OBSESSED with huge, fat, heavy knives. They regularly use knives that are eight times bigger and twelve times heavier than needed for the job. The opinions you're going to get about which knife is best will almost always be skewed towards whichever one is fattest or longest.

I've noticed that too....the bigger and fatter the knife the better is the attitude.

I personnally like a smaller, thinner knife for everyday use.

Get the bushwacker - if you decide you don't like it, you will be able to sell it for what you paid, and put the money towards an FBM. If you miss out on the bushwacker now, you'll end up paying $500 for one on the scalper market.

+1. Even used, you will probaly be able to unload it at your cost. And by then, the price on user CGFBMs may have fallen.

I have noticed this, too. But it seems that Jerry has something nice for those of us who prefer a thinner, faster Mistress, and I am glad for that. I did a huge chop off last year over on W&SS forum. All my best choppers and a pile of hard maple. The puny, thin, 14" panga style Condor was king. Of course, I chopped so hard, the handle came loose and started vibrating. The edge on the 420HC got a little beat up. My heavy convexed FFBM out split it, but did not out chop it. The extra length and shape of that blade defeated all comers, even my kukris. A thin blade can definitely chop well.

People sell FBMs at $100 over cost (marked up less than 25% BTW) and that's scalping. Yet RMDs go like hotcakes for $200, a markup of almost 50%, and everyone thinks that is a great deal! Yeah right!

RMD's for $200 are scalping in my eyes too :p

and I'll admit, I've been guilty of some scalping too. Generally my markups aren't very much, though - not that you'd know, because I often delete my prices after something sells MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Uh yeah, where were we?

get the Bushwacker.

I'm going to beat the snot out of mine, doing all sorts of chopping and cutting, and I have no doubt it'll handle everything I throw at it just fine. besides, as has been said, you can always sell it - especially if you wait until they aren't being offered direct anymore, there are always people looking right after the cutoff...

I would recommend that you purchase the BW. Here is my logic: If it breaks under chopping use a) you are a certified stud/stud-ette with an awesome story to tell, and, b) you will get a new one under the awesome Busse warranty. How can you lose?

Hard choice, are you sure you can only afford 1? I thought that at one time and now i've got a CGFBM, FBM and NMFBM. The Bushwacker is going to have to fight for my love due to a recently purchased SAR8 blowing all my Busse money.

I can see a place for the Bushwacker but I already find the GCFBM light anyway. If I was you I would get a Bushwacker and see if you can attend a chop in or meet that allows you to use another Hogs CGFBM. You'll only really know the blade for you when you start to use it.

So... spend the money on the Bushwacker or hunt down a deal for an FBM CG? Either one would be a user. Just trying to figure out which would be a "wiser" purchaser. Sucker would be strapped to the side of my pack and used as fit for "general" tasks.

Thanks for any input.

The Enlightened know that true happiness can only be attained when you own at least one of every Busse knife made, so I would listen to Jaxx and get both.

If you want to carry it out in the bush - Bushwacker all the way. If you are a physically big guy or want to use it around the yard or ranch CG might be a good choice. The CG is kinda heavy for lugging around while hunting or hiking. In my (not too valuable) opinion, the Bushwacker will probably become rarer and might be a better investment. There were quite a lot of CGFBM's made while there will probably be less BWM produced. Go for the Bushwacker now because you will be able to get it at Busse Combat Shop prices. The best deal at the moment. You can always pick up a CG later on down the road. In general the 3/16" models are quite rare.

There were quite a lot of CGFBM made. It was a long run. It seems that lately many of the runs seem shorter. Maybe I'm wrong, and I don't know jacks**t, so let's just call it a hunch.

I wonder if shorter runs are a response to a tapering off in new orders?

It just seems to me, based on the response ever since Jerry showed the first pic of this latest Mistress, that it will be a hit. Combine that fervor with the opportunity to get a Battle Mistress for $350, and we could see a long run.
