Bushwacker vs. Machete

The Bushwacker is not a real machete. Machetes are flexible and Bushwackers will be rigid. Have a look at this link I found which compares a typical machete to a Busse knife.

man. I take it you've never used a heavy machete?

my thai heavy machete is far from flexible. If you wanted to make the claim that the bushwacker mistress isn't a machete because the handle restricts the motion of the wrist and arm to a limited arc that is best utilized in heavy chopping - making it difficult to do basic brush clearing then absolutely it makes for a terrible machete.

If I had the money, I'd buy several of them. For me, this new Mistress is special. I have been hoping for a thinner, lighter big Busse for some time. From what I read on the forum, I'm not alone in this. I can't wait to wear the Tanker gray coating off of this one!:D

I think Jerry simplified it a little more and called it the BWM.

At least I think that's what he put in a post somewhere, I could be wrong.

Yeah. We wouldn't want folks to know that we paid $300+ for a machete. :D
But here's what the designer and maker of the knife says about it:

"The Bushwacker is the thinnest of ALL Battle Mistresses making it the best Mistress of all time for clearing brush and other duties where "light and fast" are the order of the day. It is destined to stand out in the long lineage of the acclaimed Battle Mistress series as it features our new "Battle Rattle" handle design with a very user-friendly, tree bark texture. This new grip pattern offers a secure grip without being too aggressive under heavy use. . . The rounded butt rolls easily in the hand when chopping, and at a scant, near 3/16" thickness, the Combat Grade Bushwacker flies like the wind!!!. . . Very Cool ! ! ! "

Cool, indeed. :D

That works also:thumbup::)

I have an old dictionary. I like it. Just for giggles, I looked up machete.
This is a Webster's Concise Edition New Word Dictionary of the American Lauguage, copyright 1964.

machete..."a large, heavy-bladed knife used in Central and South America, for cutting sugar cane, etc, or as a weapon". The illustration shows a short cutlass style machete. You see. That's my problem. I'm just old. I use the term generically for just about any big chopping knife that isn't a khukri or a bowie. Parangs, goloks, barongs, bolos....they're all just machetes to me.

Chopping saplings to make shelters, clearing a campsite, chopping and splitting firewood, cutting shooting lanes for hunting, trimming your hedges, slicing water melons, scaring your neighbors....the list is endless. :D

Thats all the information I need. I am in.

I have a really Long One and it's Thick too

Oh, and it's a BUSSE and it's called The CHUCKETTE'

(I always thought LVC was older, like OP or something. go figure, the interwebs is funny like that)

Hey LVC where did you get that thing. Awesome!

ebay. I tried to find another listing for one but didn't come up with anything. The handle pins needed to be replaced (they were soft aluminum), but there is a temper line on it and it was well worth the 35$ after shipping.

Great thread!! :D I started out "What the....." and ended up laughing out loud!

It has been a hoot. Whatever category you put the new Bushwaker in, Bowie, machete, or just big ole knife, it's going to be great knife.

The link I put up in the Original Post shows that a Busse Mistress will hold up LONGER than a machete before having to be sharpened. To end any further argument: The Bushwacker is a BOWIE not a freakin' machete. If anyone disagrees that's OK. It's called semantics and we're allowed a lot of flexibility in that area. Let's just drink to the fact that we finally got what we wanted - a large frame, 3/16" thick BUSSE MISTRESS!

I'm sure some would say a Bowie has a swedged point or something. But I doubt that many will use their new Bushwackers as fighting knives anyway. They will more likely use them as..........you know. :D Bowie works. I have seen everything from a Buck 119 to the Collins #18 machete called a bowie.

You guys are convincing me that I really need to order one of these. I have been wavering back and forth between getting one and not. My reasoning was that I have the CGFBM, a DF, and so forth. But, it would be nice to have this in case I ever get to go some place that a slashing machete would be helpful!

I know I don't "need" one. I have machetes and my DFLE is quite lively in the hand for bush wacking. The M9LE works well for that, too. But I just wanted one in INFI. I am glad Jerry answered the call for a thinner Mistress. I have one other thin Busse, my Skinny ASH1, and it is a slicing machine. I like the 3/16" thickness.

+100.

If I had not dithered back when, I might have had Jeremy Horton run a CGFBM through a surface grinder to make an Anorexic Mistress. By procrastinating, I will now save money. :D
