This isn't meant to be a leading question. I'm interested in the AK, but need a little more justification in my mind:

For those of you who have 'em, what are you using it for?

Does the blade feel hefty enough / grip secure enough to use as a (very expensive:D ) machete for brush clearing?

What kind of sheath are you-all using, or would you suggest?

The Blade is very sturdy, and I plan to do plenty of chopping on various wood/burdock. If you get one, I think you will be pleasantly surprised, and then, like me- obsessed.
I love this thing!
I will try to get a nice spine shot showing the stock thickness, it is pretty thick.

AK on bottom.

I also love the handles.

I use mine to scare the air every once and awhile but thats about it so check out David Browns pictures here. You know what they say about pictures.

I got a few AK's for throwing.

I have not yet done that.

I have four sheaths on order from Buy Brown industries, three colors.

I figure to get a Zombie Killers of America Tee-Shirt for if I ever take a pair of them out to the mall some place it might be legal to do so.

I will try to get at least two of my kids and at least one of their friends to go along, Six to ten swords, full length Leather Dusters, Zombie Killers of America Tee-Shirts.

Got ot be some place legal to do that, bet it might well make the News?

Film at 11:00

Mall Ninja's eat your hearts out!!

I guess it basically comes down to a brush clearing tool. I'm sure a jury would'nt have to deliberate too long if you actually used it in self defense. A prosecutor would have a field day with a defendant that killed someone with a short sword......this isn't ancient Japan.

I use it to open french champagne bottles. There is a specific way to do this. You hold the handle closer to the blade for balance. Then you lay the blade flat on the bottle with the edge facing away from you while holding the bottle in the other hand with the cork also facing away from you. In one swift motion you skim the blade across the bottle and nail the plastic cork and watch it fly along with half the contents of the bottle. Then you drink the rest and say arrrgghh!!

You are supposed to "cut" the top of the bottle off- called "sabering the bottle"
I haven't tried it myself- Dave Rishar had a nice video in the HI forum.

When you hit the plastic cork, does the cork just pop out, or does it knock the top of the bottle off?

Good way to put it. I bet a lot of us got scared air/neighbors, sometimes coworkers already.

Thanks, Mike, you turkey :D ! Actually, looking at your AK on the desk pix yesterday and those today and reading Triton's online review, I'm getting pretty frothed up already. Maybe adios to $600 for the "smithsnoh" unit. I'm just trying to breathe easy for a while.

"sabering the bottle"

Hard to follow the instructions from you boys. On any bottle that doesn't come with opening instructions, my "Ultra Guy Manual" says you just smash the bottle with a rock and filter the glass out with a sock. . . .

Here's another Ak (Green Micarta) for you to look at! They call it the FUGLY!

it knocks the top of the bottom rim off - but i wouldnt advice anyone do this with a sharp knife, as your pretty much gaurenteed to dent or mash the edge pretty badly. glass is very very hard...

unless you dont mind denting your edge :)

Bravado, so that's the FUGLY.

Good shot of the blade in context. Getting a little more frothed up now  .

So, reality check before I get too bitten by this thought: anybody think the blade can reasonably be passed off as something like a machete (as opposed to a knifenut possible wacko packing a sword :D ) if I packed it in the field? Maybe by carrying it in an almost full-length cheap canvas or an old firehose sheath?

(I'd want to avoid the "baldric" and cloak look, probably.)

I did that about 3 times last new years. We refer to it as "tomahawk chopping", but then that doesn't sound very classy. I used the spine of my SJT and took out a whole bunch of glass, lost maybe 1/4 of the bottle :). Things certainly can get messy with glass flying around. By the third one it was kinda hairy. If you're sober it works real well though.

I think it all depends on who you are with. It certainly works well as a machete.
