If for no other reason than they look cooler. :D

Doesn't that void the factory warranty? My Air Force friend wants to replace his tubes with Screws, and I do like the look better, but I like the Nuclear warranty with my INFI...for all that Busses probably need a warranty less than any other knife I've owned.

i'm pretty sure drilling the tubes out would not void the warranty...

Busse warranty has no value to me. The knives don't break doing the tasks I do with them. If they did I would not buy them. :D

Bubba,

Some of the things I have personally seen you do with/to your knives would make normal knife makers "Void" in their pants.

Do not worry, it will only void the handles staying fastened portion of the warrenty.

I would agree with papathud, the only thing it would void is the tube fasteners, but I'm sure that for a small fee they would put new tubes back on it. unless you modify the scales, I'm sure they and the knife underneath are warranteed against breakage.

Tubes are OK but I like the screws so much better. Thanks for the info! I've got several new projects in mind now!

Anybody know if the scales on a given model are all interchangeable ith others of the same model? Or, are the holes and overall size/shape slightly different? Like between all FFBMs and/or CGFBMs?

I was considering doing this same thing to my NO after several hundred throws- many of which were, ummm, bad (it is bad when a piece of steel over 1/4" thick vibrates loud enough to hear 25 feet away, isn't it?)- caused the scales to loosen up a bit.

But, I like the way it looks with the tubes so, instead, I just got some nuts and bolts and macgyvered the tubes right up. Worked like a charm.

That ASH1 does look cool with the screws though.

Totally voids the warranty and makes the knife virtually worthless.

Send it to me and you won't have to suffer any more humiliation. :D

Actually, it looks pretty good with the mod.

Will the screws hold as well as the tubes? I would think so. It looks great. Thanks.

I don' t think the screws are as strong as the tubes. However they are more than strong enough. Strength beyond what is needed is superfluous and of no value. I do value being able to remove the handles. Additionally the screws look better. Others may use their knife handles for things that need more strength. I am not sure what kinds of things that would be. I know my hand will let go long before these screws do.

Were the slabs originally glued, or just held by tubes?

No glue, just tubes of a very mild steel that drills out with little effort.
