Busse Builds a House

I spent the weekend working on the new house.
Used my PimpDucci GW & SHBA to cut and build a Timber Frame.
Enjoy the pics.

Nice looking Fox Hole .....

BUT looks like a few pieces are missing ..... walls, roof, windows, doors, etc. :D

Then again, what do I know ..... this is the Wolf Den. ;)

Notification received.
Now the question is, what are you willing to trade????
I could probably spare a few acres and am in need of a FBM Proto and Anniversary SH-1. :D
I'm also waiting for clues to the buried Nuclear Payload. :foot:
If it's not buried yet you'll have to make a trip up and we'll have a dram or three. ;)

Dave,
Quick question...How's land prices up there in Maine? "Reasonable?"...I was thinkin' about retiring up to Alaska in a few years, but in Maine, I don't think I have to worry about permafrost. And, especially after seeing your pics. Nice INFI, by the way....
-Thanks.
P.S. Sorry if I'm out of line by asking this question.

Define "Reasonable".
Be prepared for high taxes.
PM sent.

Thanks, Dave...PM back at ya'. High taxes!!! I thought the paper companies up there took care of all that!
Higher taxes means less INFI. FTS!

Great looking house, even better looking land. I bet you'll love it, and look at all that timber to chop:D

That house looks too small... if any SHBA's don't fit call me:p

I think your house will have plenty of room for all your SHBAs, but I question whether you'll have room for all your SHSH IIs. SO, if they don't all fit, call ME!

Dave,
Email to other address sent. Don't mean to "Hog" all your time!
- Thanks

Hmmm. . . A few acres could put you into some pretty nice INFI!!!  Of course you'd have to deal with a fairly drunken neighbor every 2 or 3 years when I visit and you'll need a few weeks after I leave to recover from all of the scotch and cigars that we would consume. But other than the impending threat of sclerosis of the liver and some second hand smoke induced lung trouble it could prove to be a great time!!!!!!  ;)

Sounds like you need to make a trip to Maine so that we can iron out the details. :D
If your only going to be visiting every 2 or 3 years though just stay with us.
I'm sure that you could trade INFI for a week's stay.
Scotch is on me during your first trip. :foot:
I might even dig out the good stuff (34 YO MaCallan).

Tell us more about the house please. What are your finishes? Who's doing the interior? Do you need an onsite GC or Trim Carpenter?;) I'd even bring my ST Ripper to carve your moldings.:D

That is some fine framing!

Well if you're looking to spend some time in Maine feel free to make the trip east.
We can always use an extra free hand.

The Timber Frame was done by Liberty Head out of Vermont.

We will be enclosing the frame using SIP's by Murus out of PA.
http://www.murus.com/

We have a local building contractor doing the interior and exterior finishing.
Nothing fancy.
Sheetrock for walls and Spruce 2x6 V-Match for the floors and ceiling.
Architectual shingles and hardy plank siding (http://www.jameshardie.com/homeowner.htm).

It's going to be a 2 bedroom, 2 bath house.
The fanciest thing is the wife's stove.

More questions...

I'm unfamiliar with timber framing. Most all construction down this way is stick framing. Since you're using rock on the walls, does the carpentry crew still have to frame out walls on 16-inch centers with standard 2x4 framing? (in the gaps between timbers) Or is there some other technique for a timber-framed house?

What sort of R-value do those SIPs have to have in order to fend off Maine winters?

Lastly a couple of suggestions...

Mead hall downstairs!!!

Giant Hog's Head (tusked boar is an acceptable substitute) over the mantle.

The sheetrock is installed on the outside of the timbers just enough to hold it in place.
Then the SIP is installed and the SR is attached to the SIP from the inside.
The SIP's (the one's I ordered) are made of 7/16 OSB inside and out with a foam core.
Different thickness SIP's can be had from different MFG's.
Our walls will be R33 and the roof R40.
There will not be a Mantle or fireplace (tooooo much heat loss).
Heating will be done using gas Hearthstone stoves.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Wow, that's quite a stove! (I have actually heard great things about them). Are you sure you don't have to part with any of your SHSH IIs to get that?:D
