I am in the market for a camp knife/chopper. Battle Mistress fits the bill, but maybe there is another model that along the same lines as the BM that I am not aware of?

The Battle Mistress is hands down the corner stone Busse chopper, but there is also the Basic 11, Killa Zilla, Fusion Steel Heart, and others. In my humble opinion however, nothing will ever top the Mistress!!!

Mr. Busse has posted recently about some new Bussekin designs. Might want to hang in a bit and keep an eye on Swamprat and Scrapyard ... who knows what might happen, post-Blade?

As for choppers, both the Basic 9 and the Basic 11 are wonderful knives and not all that expensive. I have both and I plan to keep both (but I'm an Accumulator).

The DogFather is a good choice from Scrapyard, and there have been many excellent choppers from Swamprat ... but let's wait a bit to see what pops up, eh?

What, no pics guys??!!!??? :D

My best choppers by far are the KZII and B11 (bottom two) - CGFBM (top) is also pretty good, but I prefer the other two.

KZII just DESTROYS!!!!

Reason I was looking at alternatives was price. I would look to keep it below $400, and the knives mentioned will satisfy that.

Thanks for the tips. I'll hang out and wait a while and see what happens after Blade. Hopefully something is coming out, it won't be long.

I would still suggest picking up a B11 - regardless of before or after blade, its still a winner and will be hard to top at around $325-$350, which is what they are going for.

You will never be sorry for buying a B11, unless fondling safe queens is your goal (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I have never been able to make or keep something a 'safe queen'. Fondling only satisfies me on a few things :)

In the same boat here. Between the BM and the BWM right now. Anyone know if the BWM can handle prying at .19"? Meaning with the tip. I prefer being able to abuse the tip without worry if needed. Has anyone had issues with the "slimness" of the Bushwacker? Sorry to hijack but I think this helps in the decision

You won't have any issues prying with a BWM .... the point is very robust .... plus the guarantee would cover any damage but that is'nt going to happen .... I have one where I have sharpened the swedge and have used mine a lot without any problems ....

If you are not too far from NE Ohio, then consider coming to our Chop-In, June 25. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/854054-NE-Ohio-Busse-Boys-Chop-In-and-Hot-Dog-Roast

There will certainly be a wide range of big blades available for use, and both fresh and dried wood to chop.

You can email me for details, and get on the mailing list.

I have been invited several times, but schedule would not allow. Saturdays are part of my 6 day work week. It would be nice to experience them first hand though.

hhfsh is big enough and well priced. its the busse signature knife. my nmfbm is awesome but really heavy.

I must have a really thin CG NMFBM or my Arms are really strong, mine feels really light and nimble, for such a big blade.
