Hey there guys, I was just wondering if any soldiers have ever carried a busse while deployed.
And which model they carried, I'm going to be joining the army soon and seeing the current politics
who knows what might happen.

And thank you ahead of time to any active duty or retired military !

I never saw one as a Marine Infantryman. We had some really poor quality bayonets that we finally convinced them to stop giving to us to carry. Ended up buying my own blade to carry and unless you are part of some type of SOF you will most likely not be issued anything near Busse quality. Suggest buy you own and carry that, just be aware of base rules on blade size and if you can have them in your quarters. No one cared with infantry but I know other MOS' have had issues being caught with blades over a certain size in their room

A few years back, a soldier posted a thread asking for recommendations between an SJTAC and another model (Hellrazor, I think). He ended up going with the SJTAC, and nabbed one just a few days before leaving the country.

PST Team Delta carried (carries?) SJTAC's, before those their team leader had carried a BATAC in the Stan. Search "Embrace The Suck" in this forum's search box.

There is another unit within the Special Forces that has a bit of Jerry's heart in their SOUL...s, but we don't talk much about that. :)

I carried a RMD on my kit until I got an HG55.
Just realize that 99% of it's use is opening MRE's and cutting 550.

FWIW, this is on the wall at DIVHQ 10th Mountain DIV (LI), saw it there on staff duty once. Even a cheap knife can kill, should the need arise. View attachment 696369

Cant see the pic,, would love to!

I think the SJTAC or badger atack would be perfect all around blade. I've owned a nmsfno, sarsquatch,a few rats and dogs all being a bit too beefy for my purposes.
Currently only have a Ratweiler i need more infi !

I carried a Cold Steel 13AN Tanto when I was on active duty USMC 92-96. Had I known about Busse Combat back then, and not spent all my money on bikes, booze and broads, I prolly would have bellied up and bought a Busse.

As far as I am concerned these days, every Marine should be issued a Busse.

p/n, kudos to you for joining the Army and serving our country.;) The SJAC-TAC would be a great choice, or even an Axe-Hammer.

When I carried my Case Bowie in VietNam Jerry was not long out of diapers, so Busses weren't available yet.:D

The nicest blade I carried as Marine infantry, was a Gerber Mk II. Had Busse been around then, I would have carried one.

Just remember, "gear adrift is a gift". Not everyone is honorable, keep an eye on your expensive stuff.

Did serve before the Busse days, did carry a Buck 110 and a SAK, my choise of today would have been a Leatherman multitool and a Busse mil-overrun AD.

Obviously you should carry a Busse Ak47 if you want anyone to take you seriously.

Thank you for your service. In all seriousness though probably a small light blade. I doubt a knife is gunna see much more action than opening retort pouches.

I was thinking a Gladius would be much more fun to carry!!! Axe hammer would be a good all round blade to get

There was once a guy who frequented this forum who was some kind of special forces and talked about carrying an original ATS 34 Steel Heart. Talked about it surviving being dropped from a helicopter, as I remember. He swore by it.

And they found it? Pretty amazing. Of all the knife sized things that dropped off people during jumps or chopper trips I'm guessing only a very small percentage were ever located, and those probably by luck after the fact by someone else.

Think small and light. You're not going to be fighting with it, and all those ounces add up to real pounds. AMS, CABS, something like that. The multi tool advice already given is first rate, those are useful. Also, while Busse are very good, you might expand your search to other brands. Many good ones too choose from.

nope never did, was too far out of my price range lol. I carried a Leatherman Tool that did 99.5% of all tasks and an old P38 from a case of sea rations they served us in Germany that had been left over from Korea. Salty but the best part is every one of those cases had a small box of P38 can openers in them and we would take the Sea Rats just to get the P38. Now
this is a tool worth its weight in gold....and a CS Recon Tanto that never left the sheath lol. I would have inclined to carry a Busse if I had one. I would have preferred something on the smaller side to be honest. Maybe a Badger Attack or SOB or something along those lines. I was the commo puke as well as a machine gunner. When I did not have the commo gear plus extra batteries, extra ammo and what ever else we needed to hump around, all that got heavy after the first few miles. I carried NOTHING that I did not need, hence the reason the CS Recon Tanto never left the sheath. There was a few times we were packing light and had to do some interesting things and I would bring it. That was mostly a day trip or just a couple day insertion for "observations". Big knives are often for gear whores and wanna be REMFs to be honest.

Depending on your MOS you may use a blade a lot. We did when out in the field. Aiming sticks for setting up fields of fire, tarp stakes to set up a poncho to keep the rain off, cutting 550 cord, clearing hide areas, etc. the Marine Corps now also teaches blades combatives as part of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.

Also, schools that you go to. Wilderness Survival in the mountains of Cali, Assault Climbers School, etc

Thanks for all the replys guys, my mos is 11x and ill be going to Ranger school. hope to be serving in the regiment. Like i said i currently own a ratweiler but that is too large for what i think i need. If i can get my hands of a boss jack or SJTAC those would be perfect. If not ill probably get a customer make to make me something up. Thanks again to all those who have Turned the handle on that meat grinder !
