Busse Confession

Same here. I was looking online for a good, durable survival / camping blade and stumbled accross knifetests.com. The amount of damage the FFBM and Scrapper 6 both took was insane. I am now looking hard... no luck so far... for a FFBM to start my collection. Not sure if I should troll around here waiting on one of you guys to sell me one or just save my money and wait for the new one next year. If the new one is as rugged as the FFBM then I will wait...but who knows heh.

Im a bit worried that once i get my first knife im gonna be a junkie. I am already gettin antsy wanting one. So far I found one vender selling a FFBM and they wanted 1400 dollars. Ive never used E-bay but the ones ive seen there are going for 800 or so. Oh well well see what happens I guess.

Maybe I am missing somthing but I recieved a Game Warden in trade and thought I would love the knife. After recieving it I wasnt happy with the edge, so I tried to sharpen it and had no luck. Then I sent it back to have an edge put back on it, I got it back and was happy with the edge used it a little and then it dulled again. I tried several different sharpening methods and none worked. I then sold the knife.

So you guys think it was a flop or should I try another one, I have had my eye on a scrapyard knife and wondering if I shoud just buy it??

Those prices you listed seem a bit much too me. Have you noticed the Busse Exchange section at the top of the page. I think many new people miss that exchange. I have seen them sell there for much less than your given prices, so be sure and check it out.

The B9 on Knifetests.com was my contribution, and I convinced Noss to do the Skinny ASH1 also and actually went halves with him on the price just to see what it would do @ 3/16" thick. I had a CG ASH1 @ .32" thick I was going to send him also, but after talking about it we decided the FFBM test had already shown what that thickness INFI would take. At first I was a little miffed that he ground the blade so far back on the Skinny before testing, but after seeing what it would take even after that and as dericdesmond says above, that all the grinding didn't affect the toughness, I was truly impressed--actually ended up testing it for one more category of abuse, in my mind--excessive grinding! That experience also made me feel more comfortable about modifying Busse blades for my own use.

I value Noss's work because I believe he is honest and fairly consistent, so when I see a knife go through his battery of destructive trials, I feel I can compare that knife fairly with others. Obviously, his work is not controlled to a scientific standard, but I find it has significantly affected the way I look at hard-use knives, and I'm grateful to have access to his site. He takes a lot of flak for what his tests are not, but I give him a lot of credit for what they are--and what they do show when compared against all the puffery and claims from knife makers and manufacturers of "hard use" blades.

To me this thread demonstrates that his straight-forward and transparent method of taking knives to destruction has become a fundamental measure by which the hard-use blades of our time are being judged. That Busse's have risen to the top in his work is no surprise to those who already knew what INFI was capable of. And his work has offered a window for many new knife lovers to discover the real significance of INFI and the Busse heat treat. I tip my hat to him for what he's given all of us.

Yeah, it's funny to see how much flak Noss took when he started the tests, but it definitely was good press for most of the knives he tested. I definitely won't be hammering my Busse's through steel pipe, but its great to know that they would take it.

Likewise, I love the lines of the Chris Reeve Pacific, but after watching how easily the two CRK fixed blades that were tested failed, I have passed on purchasing one.

I think that we should make some more videos...hint hint Jerry :D Amy, Pokey and myself really abusing some blades could be a big hit!
...
Now, that would be a big hit........creepy old men downloading video's left and right....................By the way...........................I am not a creepy old man................................................I promise!

Look on the exchange on this forum, and do some searching before you lay out any money...............trust me, your wallet will thank you later.

FFBM, FBM, etc should be running 500 or so. Slightly more, as they get harder to find. 1400???? Only if it is a custom shop satin, one off, or something else very rare (and satin).

I am happy to say I was hooked on Busse and experienced their impressive nature first hand without ever seeing some dude destroy perfectly good knives... just saying. I first saw an M6 in the knife thread of AR15.com. Searched it out, bought one, and then discovered they were part of the Busse family. The Skinny was my next purchase.

I saw the videos after I was well and truly hooked. My very first BME and a very few minutes with a 2x4 convinced me that I could get used to that kind of tough. And if a middle aged woman could do this with such relative ease...well, I haven't ever been afraid in the field alone since! :D

When I first got into knives a few years ago I seen the videos for the battle misstress and I was in awe. Noss convinced me, i NEED a Busse. I finally got one a few days ago. It's a small edc sized knife but it feels like a tank. Now I just need a chopper :D
