Unless I'm mistaken, there are some diagrams in the patent that Jerry filed on his locking mechanism. Perhaps those might be of some help...

Good work! The patent diagrams would definitely be of help in adhering to Jerry's 'vision'.

My vote is to do away with the thumb disk (creates stress risers in the blade spine anyway) and go for a flipper. But I think a flipper would interfere with the lock detailed in the patent diagrams.
