Busse for a Marine buddy

When I had a larger collection of production folders, I let him pick which one he wanted and he took the Boker AK47. He likes this one as a folder already.

this thead needs some pics!

I just decided that I really really want a BATAC with tequila sunrise handles. I just thought I would share that.

As for the OP's question, these guys will be able to help you a lot more if you give a real dollar amount, instead of "minimum wage" or "not a thousand bucks"

You might be able to get a nice scrap yard knife for a hundred bucks, or you might pay a whole lot more for something fancier.

Have you considered a good quality multi-tool? It's not got the visual impact of handing someone a big cool knife, but it's a mighty useful tool.

I always heard it as "poolie". BTW, I was issued a Kabar for a while as my weapon was a pistol instead of a rifle.

It's a small world....I went through NTA in '87 too.

i bet you got the all green utilities too? i don't know when they stopped by they did stop issuing kabars. a buddy of mine worked in the armory and they don't even have them anymore. they do have the new bayonets which're pretty cool

oorah!

back on topic. if he ain't infantry, just get him a decent folder.

speaking of folders...............................................................................

i used a crkt m16 for a few years while i was in. it did everything from cut food to open boxes. never have to sweat losing it either because it's easy enough to replace

We will probably pick up the blade after he's done with boot. Just wanted everyone's opinion on which Busse to get him.

al3, that's a good idea. Once you know for sure what his MOS is going to be you'll have a better idea of what knife would be best.

I missed out on the green ones by a couple of years. What do they issue to people that carry a pistol now? Do they get a bayonet as well?

The thing I hated about SD was watching the planes taking off all day long.

$400 will get you what you need on the XC..no prob. And who knows what Jerry will be offering then:thumbup:

you mean MP's or SNCO's? as far as mp's go i think they just get the collapsible batons.

you think hearing planes take off bothered you? about half way through boot 9/11 happened. not hearing them bothered me more

I was thinking more along the lines of 0331s, 41, 51s, etc....the ones who are designated as the 'gunner' are issued a pistol.

That had to have been a strange experience.

Not to step on Busse Combat in their own sub-forum, but you might consider sending an email to renee@scrapyardknives.com to explain your situation and ask if they have an extra Scrapper 5 to sell you. The pre-order period is over and they've just started shipping, but perhaps they have some extras or maybe someone canceled their order. Scrapper 5s are a through-hardened SR-101 knife with "Mudder" Res-C handles, and were released at $99.95 + S&H. It promises to be a truly outstanding knife and (like all Bussekin knives) carries a lifetime warranty.

I just saw your $400-ish target post, and in my opinion, that's probably a bit much for someone who's going to live in a barracks. There have been other discussions on topics like this, but stuff "walks away" even it the best units.
