Busse for job

I know half the fun of this topic is arguing about which Busse would work best, but if it was me, I would carry a smaller fixed like the Meaner or an Acitve Duty that has been suggested, but just in case the S really did HTF I would carry Pepper Foam...like the spray except it doesn't spray out in a cloud. Not only could you deter the attack before it became hand-to-paw battle, you don't have the risk of blowback that you have with spray.

I would feel a whole lot better knowing I can put a face full of pepper in that pit bull's face than praying I can get a 3" blade into a vital organ and then keep his jaws away from my face while I wait for him to die so I can push him off me. But that's just me.

Agreed,as I said the knife would be a last resort.

nmfbm. That's probably small enough to handle a pit bull effectively.

Dang. I give you credit. I'd not even ATTEMPT that job. I'd be shooting bad doggies left and right. I ain't got no patience for vicious dogs. Heck, I have secret fantasies of drop-kicking them little nippy dogs that people have. Never understand that either. Love a dog that bites EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

(Cue the funny vid of the spanish lady and the dog who neeps her fa-China. LOL)

I'd use my Busse 12 ga. pump on the pit. If I couldn't get one of those my 12 ga. Mossburg 590, 9 shot pump would just have to do. I wouldn't last long as an animal control officer in any civilized town.

The pepper foam sounds more than good.

Methinks that these guys advocating those big honkers have, A. Never had one strapped on for 12+ hrs at a shot and, B. Never spent hrs riding around in a truck trying to find a comfortable position for it.
 Even that SHBA got heavy after several hours.

The BAD would be the best real world choice, or something similar in size.

I agree with Solstice, get a BATAC, ASH, Hell Razor or something that will do more than irritate the animal. If you pull out a BAD the dog is going to start laughing at you. You know what is a mean blade is the partially serrated custom ASH that Skunk has.

I agree with Gerberblades that Solstice is right.....wait....can I do that?:p:D

Hey, get what you feel most comfortable carring...it's your job and you should know what the best tool is for doing it.

Have you considered a SAR5? I would think something like that or a Ratmandu would be idea. 4-5 inches compact design that could be carried on the belt or small of the back comfortably. I carry larger knives in the field but I don't have to worry about the PC issue. Also a non Busse consideration would be a Sharp Thing, Sharp Thing II or SST by Okuden. I've handled several of his knives and the grip is very secure. As soon as I can afford to I'm going to get the SST.

I would hesitate on recommending a SAR5 for this because of its design with no guard at all. If you are forced to pull the knife & stab, and blood flows or spatters to the handle then if you stab again, and in this situation I doubt you'll stop at one... there's the possibility of your hand slipping up the handle and on to the blade edge while clenched. 1.) OUCH, & 2.) now the dog has the scent of your blood in the air, which may escalate its attack mode... Just sayin'. I'd stick to something with enough guard to help keep your hand from riding up the handle and onto the blade. Batac or skinny ASH would be nice, but you are worried about PC... So something a little smaller like a Public Defender, ARK, or NARK might be better suited for this.

What you really want is a Fehrman Peace Maker. Not a Busse, but will do everything you are asking of a knife to do...

Good point. I had forgoten about that. I was trying to think of compact designs.
