busse goes on safari?????

Hmm... Definitely interested! As long as we'd be able to get our knives in-country, that is! :)

I've been to a couple or three safari parks in Kenya, even got charged by a bull elephant while trying to hook up straps to tow-start a vehicle with a dead battery while another team member was beating on the land rover door and trying his best to make sounds like a dying baby elephant. Fun stuff! We all survived, even baby elephant guy... I'd highly recomend going if you haven't been before. $5000 for a three week vacation is crazy cheap as well. It'll be the best 5 grand you ever spend!

I spent almost 3 weeks in Tanzania last September, even had a Busse with me. I got to visit the sites mentioned in this thread and did a lot of walking, mostly over massai land. It was an incredible trip and unlike anything I had ever done before, environment wise, culturally, just totally different. I would highly recommend the experience and to go with someone who is really familiar with the land and people would make it tremendously better.

This sounds like a fantastic opportunity. I was always envious when I was interning with Art Wolfe, and he would be less than excited to go back to Africa. I guess it would be tough, if doing it all the time.
Anyhow, I wish anyone able to do this the very best. Evolute, if you go, I will be more than excited to see what you come back with. Some of the best Avian photography I've seen so far, and I've seen a bit.
This is one of my dream trips, just behind an Australian Walkabout and hunting in Mongolia. If I were to win the Lotto, then maybe. But until then, I will travel vicariously through those able to go.

What did you do as an intern with Art Wolfe? What are you doing, now? Are you a nature photographer?

I edited for several of his trips and books, while filling international stock orders. That is pretty much par for the course for any intern of his. I am not in the industry anymore, I gave up my career as a studio photographer with Bruce Carroll and dropped my A.S.M.P. membership to preserve my marriage at the time, then lost my design business and photo equipment in the divorce. I have not been able to re-establish myself again since. I have done more art photography than anything, wildlife has never let me photo as I wished. Some day I may try to enter the photography world again, who knows?

Sorry for the ramble guys, not tryin' to hijack.:foot: Thanks for the interest Evolute. I enjoy what work I have seen of yours immensely!

I know the area better than i know my home state,,,,lol. eventualy i will move back to dar es salaam....

i have been doing some thinking and would like it if everyone that is seriously interested could pm me thier email addy.... so i can work some stuff out.

mymindisamob,

It would perhaps be impolitic to publicly state the opinion I'm thinking, right now.

My condolences on the divorce, and the loss of business and the equipment.

In any case, if you'd ever like to try your hand at nature photography internship, again, you are welcome to give it a go with me. I'd be glad to share with you the on-the-scene stuff... the ways of animals and the ways of nature, show you the techniques and tricks, teach you how to see and interpret and visually communicate, and give you a chance behind the camera as nature unfolds.
