Busse handle question

Hey y'all

I am ordering a Busse (my first, be gentle!) and have a choice of regular or magnum handles. Any suggestions about how to figure out which would fit my hand better? My hands are probably a bit larger than the average person off the street, but are not real big. This is going to be a working knife so I would greatly appreciate any advice on this matter.

Sorry to say, you'll have to try them both. I think it's a preference thing. I like fatter handles, therefore I prefer the mags myself. :)
 
Mags can always be sanded down to make them thinner. With a standard, thin handle, about all you can do to make it thicker is wrap it in tape.


Also, where are you "ordering" from that you have a choice in handle thicknesses? Or are you just deciding between two different knives for sale on the secondary market?
 
I have small hands but very long fingers and I prefer Mags all the way...:thumbup:


They just feel more balanced to me....but that is just my opinion:)
 
Ok, this is pretty weird, I've never measured my hand to give advice before...from the bottom of my palm to the tip of my middle finger is 8.25 inches...and I absolutely positively prefer magnum handles.
 
Tell us exactly what knife you are ordering. Then solicit some generous HOGs who have one or both of those knives to take a width measurement and maybe a circumference measurement. One may even live near you and let you fondle their knife. That's probably about the best you'll do. It's all very subjective (unless Amy-0 says it, in which case it's best to NOT disagree :) ).
 
Hey all. I am getting an Ash-1 with a .22" blade. My hand measures from heel to tip of my middle finger at 8" I tend to prefer mid width and height handles, nothing really big. In a tennis raquet I use a 4 and 5/8 inch grip. Thanks for all the advice so far, I am leaning towards the mag grips.

Well my hand's got the same measurements as you and I definitely prefer magnum handles. Like others have already said, I like the fact that you can sand them down so they fit perfectly into you hand. You can't do that with standard scales. I'd say go with the mags!

My hand is exactly the size of yours, no kidding. I have an Ash-1 with that thickness blade as well. I have the custom hand shaped G10, which only came in one flavor as I recall. Max width on the handle is .96" and max circumference is a hair over 4". Max handle height is 1.4" in the middle. slabs are .37" thick each. Hopefully that helps.

While these are shaped like standards, I do believe they are thicker than most standard slabs--more like mags, but without the pronounced "golf ball" look in the middle as you look down from above.

For me, these slabs are close to perfect. I don't think I'd want to go thinner and probably could stand to even go slightly thicker. So to me, it sounds like you need the mag handles.

Also, when the Ash-1 SEs came out (without the hand shaped slabs), I got one. They had the standard slabs on them and I knew from the second I saw it that it was way too narrow in my hand.
