An ALFA-Hog??
I was one of the founders and first Prez of the Alabama ALFA Romeo Owner's Club back in the mid-late seventies. I bought a '73 2000 Berlina new from a new dealer whose ALFA sign was still in a crate in his front lot - their first sale - $5,248, inc s/t, 1/'74 - replaced my '70 Audi 100LS, which I had just totalled ($3,771 inc s/t 11/'70). I recycled my Blaupunkt radio. I owned nine more Alfa's, inc parts cars, over the next 10+ years. It cost a small fortune to keep them running - the only US-made consumable was the oil filter - which also fit a Ford farm tractor. The only knife I bought during those years was a Vic SAK and a Buck 110 - I was constantly broke - and, of necessity, a great ALFA mechanic, rebuilding engines and trannies. I never owned an Alfetta - but I did have a rare '65 1600 Giulia GTC - fun four seat convertible.
Now I drive Chrysler/Jeep products - and I can afford some knives... a Busse is somewhere in my future, although I could have done body work on one of those Alfa's if I had one back then!
Alfa's in South Africa - cool! I still have some manuals, etc - and some old Pocher kits. Thanks for the trip back to my Alfa days - I even had a vanity car tag "ALFANUT". Now I have a retired educator tag: "NO JOB" - but I have a few more knives!
