Busse hell razor for field use/skinning?

Oh shit.. that stripped blade is f-in beautiful and the handles on the one I was eyeing were beautiful as well. I'm learning....

Before you off and strip the coating, some things to be aware of :) No Busse will look like that after stripping. That's hours of sanding and polishing at work there, and grinding off steel at that level with power tools will very likely void your warranty. I suggest leaving the coating on unless you have a friend with a sand/beadblaster. The corrugated bevels are damn near impossible to finish by hand properly. Just stripping it work okay, but you'll have decarb (left over from heat treating) that can rust easily on the surface, as well as a rough somewhat porous surface that I would imagine may harbor bacteria and other nasties without proper care. The coating will wash and dry off clean, and is impervious to bleach and most other cleaners (except quality paint strippers).

I don't plan to strip it's coating. Not only does it look great but you're right, for a field knife (my plans for this one) retaining the coating is a good idea. I'll work the convex edge up a bit more and use it like it should be used ;). I have to admit those stripped/polished blades look beautiful but I won't mess with this one. Interesting idea though, maybe down the road when the finish wears off...

nice blade. Personally I find busse handles are too bulky and the knives too heavy for my style. I don't use my blade hard enough to carry a tank around:D. I will say I love my busse for collecting though. Grats on your blade:)

The new tankbuster looks pretty nice too, might want to check that for a backup blade:D

I don't think the hell razor is too heavy to carry. The DF I purchased...that's another matter . The G-10 magnum handles on the HR are pretty comfortable as well, IMO. I think it's a perfect field knife. I'm now looking for a Busse "pork belly skinner", a nice thinner bladed skinning knife or maybe the mukluk (sp?). Not sure how easy the pork belly skinner will be to locate.
