Hello Ladies and Gents,
I'm in the market for a nice 'do it all' hiking blade.
It must:
- Be light enough for hiking
- Blade around 4 inches
- Full tang
- Strong enough to be used for battoning (just in case)
- Not too thick so it can be a good slicer as well

So what would you recommend ?
I think the RC-4, Bravo 1 are good choices but I want to know it Busse / Swamprat has a blade that would fit that description.

Thanks
OINK

SJTAC - get one, beat the snot out of it and you'll know why I recommend it !!

For Busse the Sar-5 might be a good choise, Ratmandu for Swamprat, and Scrapper 5 LE for Scrapyard.

The BOSS Street that's currently available would fit your needs. In past offerings the Badger Attack in its many versions and the recent SAR4 should both work. Mine are all 4" to 4 1/4" blades...

ETA The other suggestions so far are 6" and 5" blades...

I often use a Scrap Yard S5LE for hiking. The blade is longer than you want (5" not 4"); however, it is made of INFI. The S5LE is nice and light weight too-you will scarcely notice it on your hip.

I also have used the BATAC. The blade is not 4", but it is an excellent choice for camping and hiking.

The SAR4 is also an excellent choice and it meets your specific blade length requirements. It is one robust blade!

Good luck in your search!

From the swamp I would recommend the HRLM (4" blade) whereas the RMD has a 5" blade.

I reckon a scrapper 5 LE despite having a slightly longer blade would be a very good choice :)

Can't go wrong with the Boss Street. It seems to be exactly what you are looking for. Plus you can order it direct from Busse right now. I own one and use it for little day hikes. I have the Swamp Rat HRLM too. It is alot of knife for the money.

I carry my BATAC while hiking and camping. It is perfect in my estimation. YMMV.

Here is your hiking set-up. What else is needed???

Seems like there was a Lean Mean or two listed a while back on the Exchange. Here's mine:

I guess you have to define what your view of Hiking is before an accurate choice could be made, just my 2c

The Badger Attack III (pic above with pistol) is great, but hard to find and expensive. I find the BOSS Street to be too fat for it's size, YMMV. The Swamp Rat HRLM is another fine choice, and can be had for (relatively) cheap.
