Busse Hiking blade

I love the SAR 5 although the factory edge could use a little thinning; then it's a perfect camping knife that's still very sturdy and not too heavy (and I like the thick handle myself). It is a 5 inch blade but the design makes it very versatile...

If you can't find an Busse Anorexic Badger then a SRKW Howling Rat of any generation will suit your every need.

The straight handled Leaner Meaner looks to be the ideal choice given the OP's spec .... I like the lightness of the S5LE or Basic 5 personally .... but those are a great alternative ....

I'd recommend a Culti if you want ultra light, a SAR-4 if you want a min-brute that can even chop. But perhaps the best choice for an all-around day hiker would be the straight-handled currently-available BOSS Street - check the Busse Combat site for specs. There's also a thread around here that compared the BOSS Street's specs with the Bark River Bravo 1 - try advanced search of the Busse manufacturers' area using "BOSS Bravo".
Best Wishes,
"Bloody Bill"
