Hey Guys

What's the best handle for a Busse knife for field dress a deer ? I know micarta grips when wet , but maybe hard to clean later. G10 is easy to clean, but that I think would be slippery when wet . Any Busse hunters out there tried both?

Thanks for all the input guys. I took everything in consideration and made my decision. When in doubt as they say :)

Got to test out a bunch of different knives at a deer camp one year, here's what I found

Micarta does indeed get grippy when wet, and its easy to scrub clean with a brush, soap, and water.

G10 gets much more slippery when wet, but if its machined that will help. The EDC handles like those on the Active Duty are very well done and secure in the hand.

This is another one that just depends on you. I use G-10 cause it's impervious to anything. It cleans up quick and easily and yes there will be a lot of folks that say it gets slippery, personally I beg to differ. I actually find it to be tacky when blood gets on it as does micarta but I just like the feel better with G-10.

Good luck on your decision!!!

My fish knife of long standing is a Bandicoot for this very reason. The RespirineC handle is non-slippery when covered with blood, fish slime, and guts.

for any Busse I buy with plans to use, I buy black canvas micarta if available, because of grippiness. I sure wish the Max Duty could be had with micarta.

ResC followed by G10 for blood work. My B4 has done lots of meat cutting now and sold me early on.

Ya'know, a somewhat recently used Elmax Scrapyard knife (forget the name) really got me liking the res-c again. The handle is similar to the B4, nice and long and good feel in the hand. The shape is secure when wet as well, and when processing a couple hundred pounds of stinky pig, its nice to have that security. The only other I liked as much was the Mudder handles on the Swamp Rats. Now those handles were comfy!

I'm a big fan of the basic 4 for field dressing. I've used mine twice and it cleaned up fine.

I started using a Busse Basic 4 for hunting duties. I think I gutted 3 deer with it last year. Very happy with this solution.

6 deer here....if there is a better knife for deer dressing/hunting, I have yet to find it. Though I did pick up a SOB to try this year, my money is on the Basic 4 with the SOB a catch and release...

Interesting. Let us know how the SOB works out:)

Question as a new B4 owner I got to ask cuz I can't tell are all of thes B4s anorexics or mags?

I have used my share of different handle materials while dressing out animals. I have not had a problem with any of them. It all comes down to personal preference. I would have to give a slight edge to Res C.

I have used them all and have noticed very little difference. Go with the one that looks the best to you.
