Busse in the military?

I just read a PM asking which military groups uses Busse. Sometime ago I wrote an article about which knives where used by troops and military groups the most. After searching I found models like the Kabar, SOG Seal Pup, the Cold Steel SRK and BK7 seem to come up often and are bought in Base Exchange stores. Benchmades are issued too.
I wrote back then about a unit that bought Boss Jacks for everyone, cant remember right now who it was.
Does anyone know of any specific units, groups, or individuals which choose Busse? Which models do they go for?
Thanks
FerFAL
PS-Trying to reply to a 4/2012 PM here, sorry Josh, just didnt look to the upper right corner it seems.:o

I remember that the blades had "Embrace The Suck" etched on them. I don't remember the unit though.
My oldest son is carrying (and using) a BATAC in Afghanistan right now. I know of several others carrying Bussekin over there as well.

I've also found links to threads where Jerry has said that he has supplied knives to Delta Force amongst others.... Sjtac and Batac with 'embrace the suck' written on them

Plus you have to then think about all the sterile M/O models there have been over the years including CGFBMs. I suspect that it wasn't a regular infantry unit ordering loads of CGFBMs!

Thanks for getting back to me mate

Interestingly, but not Busse-related, the SEAL who has just written this book about the bin Laden assasination mentioned taking his Daniel Winkler belt knife on the op

In my personal collection Ive had the Ash1 offspring the 3B2 which is a great knife. the Team Gemini had a Mil overrun, the Argonne Assault Terror monkey was a mil overrun.. I had a swamp rat mojo with 3IH on it. There was a batac I had that was mil overrun

What I find interesting is the number of organizations we contend use Busse's. Fact is unless you are SOF most units have a limit of no wider than your palm. The longest blade I have seen issued is the Benchmade Nivarus. Granted specific units make exceptions, but most of the standard military organizations don't want the flash. I can see Plattoons and Squads getting away with it, but once you are at the Company level $ has more eyes on it.

Here's a couple for you ;)

Since 2001, always had one (at least) with me...

Ya know...every so often, this question comes up (this time, it's being asked by a guy who is trying to answer the question for a third party....shouldn't be a problem), and at some point the thread degenerates to something sounding like..."Well, do they or don't they?....Oh yeah?....For who?....Prove it!"

Hasn't gone there yet...I'm merely offering a preemptive caution. (While I'm not a Moderator, and didn't spend the night in a Holiday Inn, I have "been around for awhile".)

The fact of the matter though, is that Busse Combat does make knives for military folks/units. However, they have never discussed "what" and "for whom" nor used that status/prestige for any kind of advertizing. (Personally, I think this is outstanding!)

I do recall the "ETS" knives, but I don't believe the name of the unit was "released to the public". I'm sure there are some "oooold Hawgs" who might remember who it was (saw the presentation plaque myself), but those guys don't generally share such info, and for good reason. In fact, someone looking at pics from Busse Combat (some posted by the Boss Hog hisself) might notice some official "IRO" (In Recognition Of) plaques and flags appearing with some knives.....the units names tend to be carefully obscured.

(Mods, if I'm "out of my lane", I offer my apologies. Past observation lead me to attempt to head off potential "unpleasantness")

And not to long ago the yard made the MO 511. I also remember that a knife magazine did a poll
And the TG was listed as a knife you see carried. And the stupid smart phone wouldnt let me cap SEALs fir some reason. And the guy i knows gives you a look if you dont call it a trident.

Keep in mind that which knife/knives you strap on your gear in an INDIVIDUAL thing, particularly in SOF units. You might have the supply SGT handing out Gerbers one day and they are likely to end up in a wall locker or duffel bag with other spare gear. On occasion supply comes through and issues good stuff but that still doesn't mean everyone is going to carry it if they already have a knife they like and are accustomed too. That's not to say that some units don't issue higher end items like Busse on occasion but those are typically purchased with "discretionary funds" and are a one time thing more often than not. Also, the SOF community is very publicity shy and would not look in favor at a supplier who was advertising what is CURRENTLY being sold to the groups/teams.

I can understand security and privacy issues, but for a Busse and kin aficionado, information regarding the use of Busse knives, history, production, variations, is all fascinating.

I understand 100% but my point is it's largely conjecture what's is use down range at this time. Randalls were the fixed blade of choice in my day but things have changed a lot since then. I think we will have a better idea in another 5-10 years when the current group of SF/SEALs retire and some write books about their tours.

Out of your lane? Pull over, it's breathalyzer time and if you blow under a .270 BAC on this forum, you'll be sooooo busted...! ;) :D:D

BTW, the unit was disclosed. :) Here's Jerry's post on the "Embrace The Suck" (ETS) SJTAC.

Most of you are familiar with Recondo4u's team in Afghanistan and some of the great sacrifices that they continue to make for our country and the extra lengths that they have gone to in order to help so many folks over there.

Many of you contributed to Recondo4u when he tried to sell his Busse blade in order to obtain the much needed funds to rebuild the roof of a devastated family in Afghanistan. . . . Your contributions made it possible for Steve to be able to keep his Busse blade and still be able to accomplish his team's goal of getting a new roof on the house of the family that they were trying to help!. . . .

Very cool HOGs!!!!!!

Many of you didn't get the chance to pitch in and most who did still wanted to help some more. . .

Well, we think we've found a great way for you guys to contribute and to score some pretty cool INFI at the same time!!!

We will be offering a VERY Limited mil overrun of a very special tan on tan "Embrace The Suck" Satin Jack TAC this Saturday evening (4-5-08) between 9:00pm and 10:00pm eastern. (Sheaths not included) . . .These are the same knives that we gave to PSD Team Delta!!!

We will be donating a portion of each blade sold to Recondo4u's team to use as they see fit for humanitarian efforts and hopefully for some much needed beer!!!!. . :D. . .

So, belly up HOGs. . . this is your chance to score some very rare military INFI and to buy some Real American Heroes an ice cold one!!!!

Pricing and ordering details will be posted sometime prior to Saturday. . .

Thanks for your service PSD Team Delta. . . . This INFI is for you!!!

Jerry :D

Good reply Brian, my sentiments.

When I saw the thread, and Jaxx as the last post, thought Oh badword, it went in the crapper again.

I was presently surprised, it's good to see you on the forum.

Oh, absolutely. Other than what may be issued (which is generally not the greatest quality, but more a matter of price) There´s just anecdotal information of this or that group, unit or individual using a particular knife. That was all I was looking for. I know well enough that special operations units get knives sent for free by knife or gear makers looking to make a name for themselves, trying to become the next "oficial" SEAL, Special Forces, etc knife. Its like with watches. Watches worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars are supposed to be the official watch of one special operations group or another and then when you talk with individuals, 90% of them go with 50 USD G-Shocks. :p
I knew that Busse knives are highly saught after by those in the military that have both the knowledge to appreciate it and the money to actually afford it, thats all I'm looking for. Specific cases of people/groups carrying it.
