Hey Jimmy! Yep, I'm still around but rarely feel "moved" to post.

Bob,

Not sure those count....they went over with an "area weapon" didn't they?''

FerFal,

No issue with your request at all. It's just that I've seen such inquiry go "all wahoonie shaped" pretty much every time, and not necessarily at the hands of the OP (though several times the OP posted "with intent" that did not become apparent until roughly page 3).

Egads...looks like "play time" is over for me. Gotta get back to work! (Yeah, it's Sunday evening....being self employed sometimes really sucks!)

Military standard issue knives, are generally speaking nothing out of the ordinary (Some exceptions). They are cheap, practical, reliable but must also conform with the standard dress code sized blade. During my time in the service I was issued a few blades, My first in the Australian infantry (Combat medic) was a small multitool which honestly was a piece of crap followed by the M9 detachable bayonet which fits with the standard issue AUG's, truth be told it was nothing special but then again it was not intended to be a high quality survival blade. Later on we were issued m7 Bayonets they were essentially the same as the M9 but for the M4C rifles. Both of these bayonets got the job done but given the choice were not the blade for most troops. During my services in Iraq in the SASR there was a limited issue of a Spyderco blade the exact model I never bothered to find out, that blade has to date never been used.
In a recent deployment's to Afghanistan, Timor and the Solomon Islands I took a falkniven a1 and fallkniven f1, I had no trouble with either one they got the job done in almost every situation they were needed for. Besides using friends I have never owned a Busse or seen any issued (at-least in Australia) But I am considering buying one.

I doubt this has been much help but I hope I shed some light on military blades.

Hey Jason, yes, I'd say that most issued knives and multitools arent very good and thats putting it nicely. That's why I find it interesting to see what they buy when they have to pay out of their own pocket. Even then price will be an issue, but for those that appareciate the good stuff they will pony up the money to get it.

No idea what wahoonie shaped means, sorry, :p just wanted to see which people/units ended up using Busses at one time or another.

Here in the UK if you are in an Infantry Unit you will need to carry the issued Bayonet for the SA80A2 ... just incase you get the one in a million chance of being ordered to fix bayonets ... it happened in the Falklands and I believe in Iraq too ... so it can happen ... and that means if you have to carry it you won't want another fixed blade knife on top due to weight and available space on your belt kit or tac vest. A multi-tool or SAK is a common back up.

Some guys might also carry an issue Khukri ... if you are not Infantry but are still issued an SA80A2 or if you are S/F it is more likely you can ditch the bayonet for whatever you want to carry within reason. For example I have used a NMFBM carried in a Golok sheath and my NTTKZ in a leather sheath cammo'd to look like an issue khukri sheath with no problems and regularly use my Basic 9. I have carried many other Busses to try them out but those three are used the most.

Individual choice on knives and personal purchase would be the most likely way you would encounter a Busse in our Army. I've converted a few to them ... the Skinny Ash was popular as it carried light and was coated and reasonably priced for a Busse. Basic 9's and Basic 7's would be very popular too but are not readily available. My first Busse was a Skinny Ash and a few guys followed me once they tried it ... much depends on what is on offer on the site and how expensive it is ... the Skinny Ash was up a long time and guys could save for one and they created a bit of a trend ... definately one of the best Military designs.
