Busse knife (abuse) video?

I think the knifetests.com should get there hands on some infi!! There good at screwing up perfectly good knives.

I think noss has come a long way in trying to make some relevant data out of his destruction videos. They are not tests, in a normal way, they are tests to see how far a knife will go before it fails. In engineering testing to failure is not unusuall, this is how companies like lockheed, boeing know when the wings on the 737 will come off or when that engine should come off. If this kind of testing was not done more of us would be falling from the sky. This type of failure is from a repetetive stress until the part fails.

Noss does this by batoning a knife until it fails and almost all of them have failed within an hour of the start of the test. I think the toughest was a cold steel bushman because it was so soft at an Rc of 54 that had to be tough. So what if could not hold an edge.

Here is another issue to do this right and get an accurate sampling, more than one knife of each type has to be tested. Just one bushman isn't enough, one falkniven isn't enough.

No, because he never made a statement that he would. He stated that he will sell to anyone regardless.
False hopes? I hold none. I would love to see noss destroy one, but he will have to pay like everyone else.

Why would anyone get one for free, when not even Cliff got one for free.

Elen: The GI Tanto was the hardest to destroy. I'm still waiting for Busse
to ship me the knife. It should be a challenge indeed.

I tend to agree with you that it is taking too long. Perhaps, Busse does not want to make ` a precedent? Anyway, I hope that Noss will get enough donations to buy one of Busse's most monstrous a-a-a I mean finest blades:)

I recently bought the FBM and it is only used as a paper weight on my desk  Of course, it will still be my first choice when the zombies attack :D

BTW, Have you used the FBM while backpacking? I am looking for an excuse to finally bite the bullet and buy a sheath for the fat girl so I can take it in the field but I still have not found enough reasons.

I usually carry a folding saw and Falkniven S1 or A1. The problem is that A1 can still be used well for food preparation and if I replace it with the FBM it will be probably hard to use it for anything but chopping.

honestly, you probably should have opted for an FSH or a BM-E, they have more rearward balance for your purposes. The FBM is very forward weighted and is strictly a chopper. of couse you could have BAN mod it and lighten it up to make it more like a BM-E or SHBM, then it would work for you.

I have not used my CG FBM for any backpacking yet, but I will. I carry either a BM-E or an SHBM when I go along with my leatherman wave which does most of the small chores anyway. I have a multitool and big blade in every car inside a pack along with 100ft of rip cord, two survival blankets and a fire starter.

I am hoping Jerry will come out with an ANOREXIC FUSION LINE. An Anorexic FBM would be perfect.

available in the shop and grabbed it without a second thought. I will wait for the Steel Heart and will probably sell the mistress. Or maybe I will keep it as it is a really nice paper weight :)

Thanks Cobalt! It was one lonely night when I was just browsing when I saw that the FBM is available in the shop and grabbed it without a second thought. I will wait for the Steel Heart and will probably sell the mistress. Or maybe I will keep it as it is a really nice paper weight :)

you keep it long enough you could probably trade for something else. If I were you, I would look for a BM-E on the exchange. They are a well kept secret. an would work better for you I think. The FBM is an awesome level of power though, but it is verging on Khukuri size and heft.

which one do you have. Do you have one of the original CG ribbed versions or the latest fatties. The CG's were thinner and lighter but still more forward weighted than the BM-E, SHBM or FSH

Me, Ban and Hogwash beat the living crap out of a bunch of knives today!

Slamming thinned out edges just as hard as we possibly could into hard dry wood...

Videos were taken... Lessons learned. One expensive knife seriously damaged by using it WAY outside of its of its design.

Some really amazing lesson learned by all. In side by side tests much of conventional wisdom is both true and false... The answer is it depends.

I pretty much blew up a 750 custom today... It out preformed evey knife there and until it failed. Edge was to thinned and it rippled. But man did it chop.

I have the new one (Fat Fusion BM) and ain't she one fat lady? "It is verging on Khukuri size and heft" you say. It is verging on the size of s/g that starts with pry end ends with bar I’d say ;)

I'll check the BM-E. Ideally I need a knife between 6 and 8 inches but if the BM-E is significantly thinner and lighter I might give it a try.

Can't wait!

vvk, I would think any flavor of BM is overkill/too heavy for backpacking. A colleague at work spends a week every summer on the Appalachian Trail, and all he carries is a small Gerber folder. YMMV
