Anybody here use any of the smaller Busse knives in a neck knife or pocket set up? Which model do you like best for this purpose?

Skeleton Warden, neck knife

I generally keep a skeleton key in my pocket.....

Never really saw any real good in a "neck" knife.

People use the HACK for a neck knife, same way with the Skeleton Warden, and the Shiva Rex.

I however, don't have a busse neck knife.......yet....:D

i use the sar3 as a necker intermittently (w/ mashed cat kydex sheath). honestly, it's a little big for it (and i'm 6'4" 250#). i just love that knife enough that i do it anyway.

gravelface, on the 'why a necker?' front - they've sort of grown on me over time.
i've got a couple (a ban tang small edc blade, a j-siah necker, a johnnymac wharnie necker, and the sar3), b/c i just like having a fixed blade on me, and where i work a handle sticking out of a pocket is going to get noticed. i'm not wearing a knife to get attention. so a necker is out of sight, and not an attention draw. that's why i wear them anyways....

Neckers (for me) seem a whole lotta useless. Tactically...it is absurd......reaching under your shirt, if you wear it under, would be retarded in a self defense situation.....wearing it over the shirt is equally absurd...leaving a knife fully exposed for an attacker. Too much room for it to move around and get behind you. Then the whole retention strength versus whatever you use to actually drape around your neck...too light retention and you have a fixed blade falling across your chest into your trousers...too much and the necklace snaps and your self defense tool is still sheathed. Then if the necklace IS sturdy...it could be used to choke you!!!

Practically .....keeping it there seems more of a hindrance as far as accessibility over pocket/belt/backpack/boot.....again....reaching inside your shirt or having it snag on something if you are working in close quarters if you keep it to the outside. There are more reasons if I need to go further, but those are my main peeves with "neckers" and the complete uselessness of keeping a knife there.

Attention alone won't get you in trouble...failure to obey laws combined with attention generally does.

Only a crazy person would do that, those HACK's are worthless...................please send them all to me & I will properly dispose of them.

I think a neck knife is good as a last ditch thing, or if you forget your pocket carry knife. It is absolutely better than not having any knife, I mean have you tried cutting rope with your fingers ?

Tom Hank's character in "Cast Away" would have loved to have a neck knife, well at least I think so.

as stated above, perfectly, I worked in a Prison for 30 years and would see civilian staff come in with a tied necktie on, how stupid can a person be, if a convict grabs the short end, you belong to him. As experience would have it you lose consciousness in about 60 seconds if you are not struggling...

Thanks all for your suggestions. Neck knives certainly have pros and cons. There are times I don't want things in my pockets or simply do not have pockets (workout clothes) and still would like the ability to carry a knife. A neck knife fits this role well for me. Also not super concerned with the knife as a defensive weapon, really more concerned with it in a general use type of way.

I firmly believe it is ALWAYS better to have a knife and if a necker is all you "like" to carry, I won't fault anyone.

But as far as the gym.....clip it to your waistband.....come on...I know I am not the only one who sleeps with a knife on their boxers:D

Does Bussekin count?

if so, the Swamp Warden is an excellent necker and side pocket knife. I keep one in the side tool pocket of my Carharts in a Mashed Cat Kydex and I have another made into an outdoor necker.

Mini firesteel, 30' of 20lb flyline backing (thread, fishing line), 2 large mending needles, 2 birthday candles and a piece of wax dipped jute that is wrapped together in a small piece of heavy duty foil, a tube made from a seal a meal bag with a jumbo vaseline cotton ball cut into quarters and sealed inside, and a small button compass.

Gutted Paracord with a chain that will break before choking you is the only way to go if you are using a neck knife.

I have a Skeleton warden with just such a chain, and have worn it on the neck, but only when I don't have a pocket.

Here, in the DC area, a lot of us wear our various government and contractor ID cards in lanyarded or ball-chained cases around our necks - the leather or canvas ones usually have a small pocket for change as well as room for a half dozen cards. I found that a spyderco credit card knife fits in behind my IDs nicely and can be easily accessed, more so than a pocket knife in an office/driving (or poker table) sitting position - I've used it from everything from openning mail and packages to prying open a malfunctioning elevator door between floors.

That being said, it's still only a backup to my Busse EDC and a backpocket SAK. I found that a monkey fist knot lanyard tucked under my belt allows a pocket-sheathed fixed-blade knife (my GW, AD, or SAR-3 in that order) to hang suspended seeminly weightless in my front pocket without any obvious print to alarm people. I also keep a Culti in my work bag for food prep (apples, sausage, cheese) - it gets borrowed a lot from my coworkers ("that really sharp paring knife") for similar tasks.

I've also tried a Busse Assault Shaker as a necker, but found it a bit heavy and the grip too small and uncomfortable for my increasingly arthritic hands, although it's a great little nugget of a knife and make a great desk knife/letter opener. In the woods, I prefer an sheathed EDC on my pack strap or belt over a necker that seems to catch on every available branch. Overall, IMO a necker can be a useful backup if you feel you need one, but it's no substitute for a bigger/better EDC in your pocket.

Certainly some nice feedback. I had originally been looking more along the lines of a Game Warden or Sar 3 for EDC pocket carry and occasional neck carry when i'm running or otherwise pocket less. I have tried to clip a knife to the waist band of my shorts while running and it was constantly pulling them down. Not pretty. :D

That's the reason the paracord on my necker is doubled over and the ends run through a second loop of bicycle innertube. The double cord splits up more of the weight on your neck and if you get caught up in something it can pull through long before a ball chain would break. Plus you don't lose the extra resource of the 7 strands of nylon inside the paracord.

sorry there sir, and this is not to hijack the OP's thread, but the comment that I made is factual in regard to items around the neck as did gravelface, my comments are generally meant to be thought provoking and apparently it worked on you.

In regards to "Your statement has nothing to do with reality"

Sure it does, they are in the free street before and after, if they do not die in prison and they are plenty of people out their waiting to commit their first crime or have not been caught up with yet. I would encourage you to do a ride along with your local LEO's and it will eliminate your naivety.

You bring you own reality to the context which I find quiet silly. Though I respect you Job, few books on the subject out there, will disagree your statement too.
