Busse or Randall for SHTF knife?

Alright, it's not my fault that all these e-mails go to my BlackBerry. Or is it?

Anyway, probably the best SHTF weapon you could possibly own is a .22. Really.

+1 for a USMC Kabar. Mostly because I can't afford a Busse or a Randall and even if I could I'd find it hard to justify spending that kind of $ on a knife I would only use occasionally.

Here are a couple of 'SHTF-frugal' choices. Top down: KaBar utility/fighting; Gerber LMFII (A gift from my son!); RAT RC-5; and a Buck 650 Nighthawk.

The RC-5 runs ~$135, while the others run ~ $60-$70. Shop around - spend the money saved on necessities in a SHTF scenario - food, TP, water filter/purification, firearm & ammo, bartering goodies - and gold coins.

Thanks for all the good info. I am still trying to decide. At this point I am leaning toward the Busse. I am a believer in you get what you pay for. That is why I own a few LMTs and Springfield Professionals. The guns and ammo are taken care of for right now. In the knife department I have a Sogwinder, a Columbia river M-16,and a T.W Downing, and a Gerber Tac II. I just want one top tier knife. Call me vain.

Smart move IMO, though new here I can tell that you know and grasp alot about knife concept and design.

As I said I like them both alot, but in a SHTF situation most Busse's seems to be made for JUST that. There is no thougher knife.

Also... if in a SHTF situation price should not be a consideration, as it will prob be your most valuable tool. Yes, you need a gun as well, but the knife will serve you well in many, many situations.

If you had asked about hunting, edc, etc... I would not have recomended a Busse quite as highly, but rather a nice thin custom(Dozier,May,Krien, etc...), or one of the many fine Randalls made for this.

personally I would order the randall and then buy the Busse

BUT

that is just me

If your budget is somewhat lower, you can always get a Ranger Rd9 as a backup/beater

As a guy that owns several Busses, and had two Randalls (before they were stolen), I can say with absolute conviction that I would get the Busse. They are well worth the money and will take a hell of a beating. Busse also has a great warranty.

As someone already posted, the RAT RC5 is also an excellent choice. For A LOT less money than a Busse (and a Randall, for that matter) you can get a great survival/field knife in the RAT RC5. Their warranty is as good as Busse's, too, which is pretty ridiculous.

At least it doesn't post those annoying notification with your posts, "This message was sent via a Blackberry Mobile device."
