Okay, i KNOW i'm crazy... this just reeks of crazy, but i have this idea for pants with a built in TGLB sheath.

First, is there any such thing as NON-Ghey leather pants? I'm thinking of something that can handle BRUTAL abuse over long term in a survival situation... but i'd rather not look like a gay male stripper

i'd also like to have a leather TGLB sheath built into them on the right side at the same hight where a drop sheath would put it.

Can anyone else even picture such a thing?

The concept is not wrong, there was a time when police/prison uniform pants here had a built in truncheon pocket, but I don't think that leather pants would be greatly comfortable over along period in the bush. the problem I also see if that if the sheath is a integral part of the pants you are going to loose all the natural movement at that spot due to the stiffness of the blade.

Watching too many movies I'd say. It's been proven that the options and flexibility gained by modularity of equipment is critical. In a survival, or any hard field use scenario you want the option to mount your knife wherever you need to and the loss of full range of movement is a no go. If anything you would want Molle capitabilty integrated into the sides and waist of your pants...that way you could integrate and or disintegrate your sheath at will...and have the luxury of moisture wicking properties of modern fabrics. Leather pants are ridiculous in any real survival situation on so many levels...unless of course there is no other option. I'd go with leather over pant less in most climates. LeAther pants are only good for certain types of clubs and activities, all of which do not relate to the hard field uses that you're thinking about.

From a real life survival/woodcraft/camping perspective I can envision leather pants with an integral knife sheath being somewhat of a P.I.T.A.

It was 106 here on Saturday. Leather pants. Hmmmmm maybe not the coolest idea especially if you want to have children at some point. Just have a pocket sewn into a pair of Carharts that allows for a kydex sheath to slip in.

INFI jeans  That's what Iron Man needs

That's the first thing I thought too, was the heat with leather pants. On a related note, I hate when people say ass-less chaps, if they had an ass, they'd be leather pants...

I like recent military surplus, my old uniforms don't fit me anymore (I think someone is shrinking my laundry ;) ), but the ACU and BDU are my favorites. Versatile, rugged and cheap.

Check out Duluth Trading Co. "Firehose" pants, for something heavy duty, yet practical.

Robert Horton wore what you are describing in the western t.v. show "Wagon Train".

Can anyone else even picture such a thing?

I can picture that, unfortunately my mind's eye can only see it on male strippers now.
I like the idea of pants with a sheath built directly into them, but not at all excited with the idea of them being leather.

You can have regular jean pants and sew a leather sheath into them??? That way you don't have to go full leather :D I don't know how long it would last though.

On a side note, back when I was a young motorcycle hero who woo'ed women just at the mere sight of me leather jacket/pants/boots…..sorry….just had a short flash back…no…that is what I was going to say…. I remember me and some friends were staying on the coast for a week, I had ridden over after them and had to leave before…by the time I got up and packed they were already down at the beach so I rode down to be polite and say bye before I took off….can I tell you there is something decidedly uncomfortable and WRONG about walking down a beach here in the height of summer clad head to toe in leather…. !!!! Yes….I am sure all the women were impressed (I know I was by THEIR attire) but I can tell you most of my road warrior superpowers (especially those that involved impressing the female version of the species) had well and truly MELTED into my boots in the first 100 yards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign me up....I'm down for 2 pairs. One in black and the other in Slate grey.

Great idea. But that's just me.

Make them crotchless, and you have a winner...................

On a more serious note, I can think of "leather" pants that are comfortable. Buck skin and doe skin is pretty soft, and is durable.

The thought of putting a heavy knife sheath on the side of them is not one I would recommend.

For cowboys, they would often put a revolver in the large pocket on chaps, and chaps are pretty stiff and heavy. But they are not full pants. I have seen old chaps that this was done (revolver in the front pocket) for so long that the leather was shaped like a revolver on that pocket!

Let's see... there's a cop, a construction worker, a cowboy, one in full leather (maybe he's got that built in sheath? :barf:), a "chief", and an army guy...

Yyyyyyyy.M.C.A... It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

Nope, I'll pass. ;) Can't really even picture it, much less on me. Guess I'm not a macho man! :D

I will make kydex pants but you have to hold still for the molding proses..............it can get a little hot :)

jeans with an area of loop side velcro sewn on, sheath either leather or kydex covered with hook side velcro, might work. Then you can remove it for the occasional wash, so you will not smell like a hobo.

Seriously that is one reason I like Carhartt breeches. With the side pockets and hammer loops you can drop a kydex sheath in the pocket. You can use a Tek-Lok or Molle loks and put them over and through the tool loops.

If only they made a knife that could be folded so you could keep it in your pocket... I could make billions!
