Thank you for the detailed response,I think I will get an Ash-1 due to thickness and that the overall shape looks simple and comfortable, thanks everyone for the quick feedback!
No problem and hopefully it helped a bit. I tend to come off a little gruff or like a smarta$$ sometimes while telling it like I see it. Some may find that offensive, but I would rather you know where I stand then think I may be dishonest just to save someone's feelings, talking about tough/sharp knives, we should have a little thicker skins. I know when I first started looking into Busse knives looking at pics of brand new looking knives that may or may not have ever been used made it hard to believe they were any different. User shots and/or videos seem to say a lot more for someone looking for a tough user.
The ASH-1 is an excellent choice and much tougher than the skinny ash in my pictures. If you have very large meaty hands like I do (XXL gloves fit best when I can find them), which is my guess based on your self description thus far, then you will probably be much happier with a standard thickness handled CG ASH-1. Contrary to popular misconceptions, big meaty hands actually have less hollow space when closed, so magnum handles on a .32 thick blade start to feel like overkill. Mags feel good on a .25 or thinner blade for me, but standards on the thicker ones make much more comfortable users. The bottom pic in Andy the Aussie's post above shows a standard handled CG ASH-1. If you can find one in satin or DCBB, it will make an even better user, especially if you split or chop a lot of wood. The coating can stick a little and is harder to clean food/blood off of.
If you want just a little bit larger without gaining too much weight, the HOGFSH or HHFSH are very good choices too, but I don't think there are as many of the first out there with standard thickness handles besides the elusive/expensive snakeskin.
Dont worry,I will take honesty and a detailed answer over sugarcoating nonsense at any given time, most people are getting too soft to hear an opinion the way it is,they would rather be mentally stroked.
Im not biggest fellow by any means, its just the I've always been involved in sports and nearly every guy in my family has a personal feat of strength about them, had an uncle bend a coin between his fingers for example,so I was bound to get some genetic lottery ticket,my hands are large but not massive,I dont have any G-10 handles and have no idea how they would feel after long use,PatrickKnight also mentioned FFBM, Im now trying to decide which I want to get 1st (Busse addict in the making...),on 1 hand its a larger chopper, heavy, durable, one the other hand I can edc the ASH since Canadian knife laws are really in the grey area when it comes to edc'ing a fixed blade and I already have around 15 choppers but only 3 medium sized ones.Im not sure if forum rules permit, but to get both of these knives (FFBM and the thick ASH-1) how much would it cost,1000~ or so?I dont mind used, trying to picture how much I need to set aside to get a couple Busse's along with some hunting gear.
Funny thing is I fell in love with Busse knives when I started watching The Walking Dead.
Get the ASH1 and don't look back..!!!

A very understandable dilemma. Your figure is a safe one to work with in US $ without getting ripped off, less if you are patient. I highly recommend patience in buying your first Busse(s), they are not cheap, but they don't have to feel like you've just been financially violated either. I would recommend watching the Busse for sale forum on the exchange section for a while to get a better feel for it. Good prices go quick, high prices or lower demand items sit around longer. On the flip side, great deals don't last long at all, so if you see something you like and the price is fair to you, go for it. Be very cautious of other sources like auction sites or other forums, there are some very greedy folks out there who will gouge you beyond reason, one of whom was banned from here.
The ASH-1 won't let you down and just a great overall design. The FFBM is a big heavy beast of a chopper with it's .32-.34" sabre grind and tough to match it. I personally prefer the balance of the full flat grind FBM LE a little bit better as it doesn't exhaust you as fast, but they don't come up too often any more. An NMFBM while slightly thinner, is so front heavy that it wears you out really fast and is hard on the elbow if you chop clean through too many times (think tennis elbow here). A Basic 11 is a much cheaper and lighter option that chops great, has a good cold weather handle and still has all the benefits of INFI. Good luck with your selection and let us know what you think when you get it!
