Busse Steel heart/ Fehrman First Strike

Get both! I have a Ferman First Strike, Nice knife. I also have a bunch of Busse knives.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Those Fehrmans look awfully like Busse Combat knives, they even come in the same sizes. Those handles even look like dropped ergos. They even have that extension on the end of the choil like Swamp Rats do. Ummm, one other thing, they even use the descriptor, " Crinkle".

Theck out that symobol in the top left corner of the screen. Look familliar?

I am not sure if this is worth of a >> << or a >> :grumpy:  <<

Mike, If I am out of line, just edit my post.

Oh yes, Welcome to the Busse Forum, their are many great people here! :D

3V is supposed to be a super steel, but I’m yet to be convinced. In my experience, it chips too easily, and is a pain to sharpen.

I don’t find the Fehrman handles to be comfortable.

If I could only afford one I’d buy the Steel Heart.

I can afford to have more than one, and am still not tempted to buy the Fehrman.

This has actually been covered on the forums before. From those I've talked to that have handled those blades say they feel more like TOPS than Busse blades.
There are a lot of similarities in the knife world. I have blades from different custom makers that are similar. If I design is a good one it's possible that more than one person can stumble upon it.

I like Busse blades. That's my preference. I can appreciate someone asking the question if they've not handled either blade but most of the people that hang on the Busse forum will certainly choose Busse.
One thing you won't see, or shouldn't is someone bad mouthing another maker. Those Fehrman blades look nice. I've even thought about picking one up. I'm too busy buying INFI though. :D

Which would you choose and why? Going to buy one or the other need help deciding.

Welcome to the Busse forum. . . I'm no psychic but I think you're going to get a lot of Busse votes over here. . . ;)

Hope your search leads you to the right knife for you, and again, welcome to the forums!

I too have thought about the fehrmans but having owned and used busse I am just utterly in love with infi and I dont even own many.....my motto is buy a busse you wont worry about being dissapointed

If you want a non-prejudiced answer you'll have to post this in general knife discussion forum, otherwise, what you're really asking is: "Convince me that a Busse is better than a Fehrman"
But whatever, everyone really wants a Busse anyway. There is NO substitute for the knife that takes a lickin and laughs right back at you.

I say, Neither. "Knifes is dangerous."
Just handling one can make you spill your beer!

I believe INFI is more rust resistant than 3V if that matters to you (I may be wrong about this since I can't remember the source). I have yet to see any oxidation on my Busses.

Both brands seem to be top notch and competition is a good thing.

Peter, I own the copyright to the word "crinkle". I just license it out for a small fee. :D

Just to clarify, I am not, in any way, bashing these knives. All I am saying is they look very similar to Busse Combat knives.

Let me add my "Welcome Aboard!!" to the chorus. :)

The folks who own and drive Fehrman Knives give them high marks. I don't own any, so can only give you my impression from the reports and reviews that I've read online. Do a search of the web and you can find them as well. From those reviews, I doubt I'd feel under-gunned with a FK blade.

I do happen to own a few ;) Busse knives and, as noted above, am one of the horde of Busse fans you'll find here who have a deep appreciation of the performance level provided by a Busse blade. The vast majority of us will never (under human power) bring a Busse knife anywhere near the limit of its abilities. That headroom in the performance curve easily justifies the price of Busse quality IMHO.

I think you can't go wrong with picking up either one. If I was in your shoes, I'd try to handle both and see which one I'd like better as the handles are really different. Both steels are tough, will take alot of punnishment and will cut for a long time. As far as which steel is better, Cliff Stamp would have to be the judge of that one. I've heard nothing but good things about both makers.

I THINK I saw some rust on a Busse once, I can't be sure, it could have been dirt.
That's a good point about the rust issue, though, I think Jerry Hossom wrote somewhere that 3V rust if you look at it wrong way.

If you can't handle the two at the same time, buy the Busse first, try it for awhile, if it is not for you, you will recover your money easily and then see if you like the Fehrman. I think once you use the Busse, there won't be any need to try anything else, just my experience.

:D
