Busse vs Chain

MikeH---You said a mouthful!
I'd love to see a Busse Folder but Jerry knows better!

Hmmmmm. Wouldn't a cold chisel do a better job? If he had batoned the blade through the chain there wouldn't be as much damage, but what's the fun in that?

The whole subject of noss4's knife evaluations can lead to some ugly thread drift, so let's please try to keep him out of it. ;)

Well, leaving him out of it :P if it were a steel pipe, or even a solid steel bar, it would not have been damaged like that. The chain is thicker than the pipe's walls, the stress on the blade comes from random directions unlike an anchored bar of steel, and the chain is likely harder than most steel pipes.

ahhhh, here we go, getting past the hype...

the chain might be harder than the pipe...not harder than Kryp product

hardened steel chain will destroy busse blade, especially in the small diameter shown

simple

respect the laws of physics... hurts when you don't

The "hype" is not a question of whether the Busse would fare well against case hardened steel.

What is at issue here is how well other knife steels would stack up against a chain like that shown in the Busse vs. chain thread.

And how well would the other knife companies warranty the resulting damage?

I guess you could tackle a blacksmith's anvil with a Busse, but what would that show?

hey i know that most people here love busse and will defend him to the end, no prob, i respect that,

but we don't have that chain to test

calm down, nobody said anything about case hardened anything

and my blades do what i say they will, guaranteed, not just a repair or replacement

calm down

I didn't know I was getting upset. Thanks for the tip. :p

They didn't?

Good thing that wasn't case hardened chain!

hardened steel chain will destroy busse blade,

wnease, not that I recommend it with any knife actually, but have you cut through chain, case hardened or otherwise, with your blades? If so, could you describe any damage they received?

You seem to be poking fun at Busse knives and/or Busse users with some of your comments. I wonder why that is.

what happens when you try to cut a busse with another busse? end of the universe?

i poke fun at everyone who seems to be able to take it, but i apologize if i've gone too far...

i stand corrected on the case hardened thing... i thought you were responding to my post and didn't scroll up

busse blades are great and the customer service seems to be also... i poke because i remember the marketing from the beginning

Not a problem and no apology necessary. I wasn't upset or even mildly disturbed. Just confused by some discrepancies.

FWIW, even the die-hard Busse people poke fun at the marketing.

The knives and the warranty, from my experience, are the real thing though. The steel holds up and holds an edge. The warranty gets tested in weird ways all the time, and I'm yet to see Busse say "sorry, that's just too much abuse."

I am sorry but my reaction to this is not being impressed with the knife for being able to cut the chain but how f#$king stupid that guy is to do this. Sorry but this makes no sense to me.
