Busse Warranty Question

So, i've heard a lot about busse's major damage warranty, but i am kinda curious just how far it goes.

For example, if i were to baton through a car door, or a cinder block to prove to someone that i could, and i somehow managed to break it (not TRYING to break it) would that be covered?

In short, is INTENTIONAL abuse, that results in unintentional destruction covered?

I think the man himself had a post about using one to hack through a car for emergency purposes.

I believe they will try to fix it, and if they can't, they will replace it.

Yes. From what I have seen.

This came up, because i got challenged to destroy things with my new gladius head to head with a custom maker called Miller Bros Swords.

it started with the phrase "we fully torture and test our swords to the point of breaking. I have broke several of our blades, and would hope that no customer would EVER do what we do to these things. I would not expect a INFI sword to withstand the same abuse."

and went from there until a helpful friend said "Well, chris, I for one would LOVE seeing a video in which you use the Busse gladius you've got coming to destroy a bunch of things. Then the miller brothers can demonstrate their chops on similar targets."

Which has me thinking about breaking stuff with my new toy..

here's the challenger. 5/16 thick, 5160 steel...

If your planning on becoming the next NOSS... it's doubtful they would cover it since it was INTENTIONAL destruction.

Destruction without the intention to destruct is different. Things like chopping cinderblocks and batoning through vehicles are commonplace around here. It's been done many times without any catastrophic failure. Folks tend to push their Busse's farther than any other knife. That would be covered methinks, provided the attitude and behavior of the individual was proper. What is not proper is doing something stupid with your knife, posting a broken Busse all over the internet and then asking Busse to fix it for you. That might be asking a bit too much. But it's just this guy's opinion... ;)

.

Kdstrick... right above your comment is the actual situation. No intentional destruction, just some SERIOUS abuse...

I don't think the Busse even needs to be tested....It already won:)

Jerry would be the one to know, Garth would probably be able to tell you. Why worry about it? Just do it, you wont destroy the gladius.

Look up what Knife Hunter did to his Gladius, that set of pics would make a great "look what one can do". I think the title is "Sparks flew..."

That said, 5160 is some tough stuff, and at that thick is going to put up quite the fight. Though not as good looking as the Busse, that sword of theirs looks like a real beast.

I would love to see a head to head challenge at Blade.

I know Busse is up for it.

Heck I would like to see anyone do a live challenge with Busse at Blade.

I thought the same, but it appears that them folks over on the sword forum disagree... :P

There's some grumbling that 5160 "properly heat treated" would perform pretty much as well as INFI... :grumpy:

5160 is basically 52100 with less carbon therefore making it a bit tougher.

There is a reason busse uses infi instead of sr101 in their flagship knives. Dont get me wrong 5160 and 52100/sr101 are great steels.... But busse didnt get the reputation for the toughest knives in the industry by mistake

Don't shoot it with a 50 BMG.

That's probably not covered.

quit your grumbling, have them make a hawkish thing and when i get what's coming to me send a test piece and we will see how act's on a live vid thing. challenge issued, scared say you r scared. i'll provide a place and time to shear a car in half. this will involve edge, bend, overall wellness of the test piece.
