Busse's and Gunshows?

Well, I set up this weekend at the Lexington gunshow" actually only on Saturday" and decided I would put some Busse's on the table just to see if anyone knew what they were. Most looked at my cold steel tantos' my Sogs, Kabars.. The Busse's were something most had never seen, and had quite a few people ask about them... I loved telling them about the indestructability of INFI and how I was selling all my other knives in order to buy the best.. none sold. but of coarse I think all were spending their $$$ on AR-15s etc.. but it was nice to meet a fellow HOG, whose name I forgot "big guy?" but we chatted about HOG stuff, Ganzaas, He had the opportunity to be at shows where Jerry had set up in the old days and smash concrete blocks with his early busse's then strop them on a steel bar, then shave hairs and paper.. only about 4 people in the entire show actually KNEW what the Busse's were. the rest were in the same category of those people who ask me if my FN-FAL is "one of those AKs" ....why is the Kabar $50 and that ASH1 $350???
One guy... was great.. he had read, seen pictures, and heard of Busse, and he patiently waited while I wheeled and dealed in order to JUST PICK UP AND HOLD A BUSSE.. it was great. he got it.. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else had set up at a gun show and got the same response to their busses. no.. none sold, no offers, and no they weren't overpriced, "not at cost but not beyond forum prices" good thing for the blade forums... I think the commradery, enthusiasm, and family atmopshere "for the most part" is why the forums are so successful. that is where the HOGS are at, who KNOW WHAT BUSSES ARE!

I know a lot of people who think they're "in" (cops, ex-military, etc) when it comes to gear/knives/accessories, etc. and none of the ones I have talked with have ever known what Busse was.

Their shock of the cost says most of it.

To see their look after they've either seen one in action or held one and realized what one truly was is worth it. They don't get the explanation but they do get the knife itself.

We have two different gun/knife shows in my area. Between the two of them I'd say it equals out to about 4-6 a year. To the best of my knowledge I've yet to see any Busses at any of them. I've been searching for the last 3-4 years.

:grumpy:

yes, I did the nations gun show six times.

Good way to get out of house for weekend, meet some nice folks and play with a lot of guns etc

I sold quite a few the first four shows. THe last two were a waste of time and this last show I went as a buyer:D

lot more fun

Honestly, the forum works much better and is alot more fun

I never see any decent quality knives at my local shows. The most are foriegn crap and there are a few makers that frequent the shows but their knives are nothing special. I don't mean to be harsh on them but they are pedalling are kit knives or polished shivs. The handles on most look like bricks. Not to mention the price on them at least 3-4 times what you would see on the forums. What puts me over the top is the usual mall ninja/tacti-cool person saying their knives are the cream of the crop from pakistan.

Mall Ninjas fear the Busse! :D They realize they just don't really get it! (but won't admit it!)

The Nations show in Chantilly VA has at least 5 guys with Randalls . Others with Behrings and some other fine makers, but mostly local makers and blacksmiths.

Still a large number of knives for a gun show.

All of mine were gone quick mostly by vendors. Then I would find em on their tables marked up.

I was looking for another outlet for my koolaid binge. I like to touch em all...... just cant keep all of em:D

Ha ha! Yes, I know what you mean by junk at shows.. I had a guy setting up beside me and his knives were all made in pakistan and china. $1 - $20 each.. Samurai swords for $15... AND HE WAS SELLING! too bad most of those knives he sold will be broken in the next week.. one guy dropped a "medieval dagger" the blade bent and the hilt cracked.. should have been a hint.. The ONE knive I sold at the show was a timberline Zambezi... a decent knife for $95... I need to reproduce some of the old Busse pamphlets with Jerry's pics of INFI in action... I never got to see one of Jerry's early shows with the demonstrations but I heard about them.. they were the sellers... now, there are enough hogs with stories to spread the word, but a BUSSE DVD from Jerry would be great for those of us who set up..

I went to that gun show this year, and last year and the year before that...:barf: Seems to get worse and worse every year:barf: I promised myself I was never going again, lots and lots of crap, mall ninja friendly.

Busse use to set up at the 1500, but I haven't seen them in quite awhile.;)

Just funning with you Mike. I'll see you in January.......

hopefully:p

Man, the poor cops around here are carrying fake Benchmades, Emersons and Spydercos. What government pays a cop enough money that an honest one can drop $300-$400 on a fine knife.

Fixed blades don't fit very well into duty carry for most officers and if it's not on you when you need it, well...

I have problems getting officers to understand the problem of the visible clip from the knife clipped to the pocket and visible. Blade carry should be discrete unless you're prepared to fight for it.

A lot of officers seem to carry a knife because "everybody" does. Some get it, some don't.

Hmmmm....seems like another good opportunity for the Busse folder! ;):D

I've only set up at two gun shows. Both of them in Huntsville, AL. The first one was before Christmas, last year. I only sold six knives. Four mid price Kershaws and Benchmades, one Microtech, and one ZT. I didn't sell any fixed blades. The other show was in Sept. and I sold fourteen, mostly high end knives including one Jackhamer. Hundreds of people came by my table, but only a dozen or so new what Busse was. Most of them were collectors. I'm spreading the word about Busse in North Alabama. I think in this area, Busse can catch on like wildfire, even in this economy.

I have been attending gun shows in Alabama (Birmingham and Montgomery) for may years and in that time have run across only one Busse. That was in Montgomery, a Custom Shop enlarged choil Active Duty. Galaxytech and I have met at a few shows and held a Busse show-and-tell of our own.

I do have a Large Classic Sebenza and a Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx that I found new unused and heavily discounted at Birmingham shows, though.

I agree .... I went to the Chicago 08 blade show with a backpack filled with Busses...

Not one person seemed to be interested in trading or buying..

If you can't afford a $400 kife on 50-70 thousand a year, your budgeting skills suck.

Yeh...no offense, but down here cops start lower than teachers, and we ain't that well paid either. That 50-70g range you posted is more like what feds make.
