Busse's on vacations/trips?

Whether it is because a firearm is not allowed, you want more than one option for blades or possibly coordination with your wardrobe....what Busse's do you take with you on trips/vacations?

Personally I want a blade I can chop with, one I can conceal easily, and another that can be versatile enough to do a variety of miscellaneous tasks.

Maybe you are the same and maybe you aren't. In any case, what blades do you take with you??

Thanks

Sounds like we have pretty different ideas of vacations. I just take a shirt, pants, underwear, my passport, and $50 :)

CGFBM - Big chopper for larger firewood
DSF or NMSFNO - around the camp chores and firewood
Meaner or SAR4 - everything else

I take something cheap because I've had low life TSA pukes relieve me of nice folders out of my checked bags in the past.

CHECKED bags?? And they have the authority to do such a thing??

I know people commonly take guns in checked luggage...no law against that either that I know of. So where did they get off taking your folders??

Either way I plan to mail all my weapons/gear the next time I fly.

Thanks

I think he means they disappeared rather than being confiscated somewhere between point A and point B.

Ahhh ok. Again, I'm thinking mailing would be the best option. However, in my case, all my goodies are going to my cousin. All I have to do is pick up ammo when I get there.

I like the way Max covers bases. Similar to myself only I prefer a Kukri for chopping.

Thanks

As Blade nears, if I can't find some answers, I'm probably going to bring this up again. No need to check my luggage on the way to the show, but I don't feel comfortable checking the knives in on the way back, and I can't carry them on. Too many sticky hands among baggage handlers.

There is a USPS store in the mall next to the convention center, or the Busse crew will mail your stuff to you when you get home. I flew home from 2010 with a Gladius in my check bag and it made it home fine

It's not only sticky fingers with me...it's past experiences I've had prior to 9/11 which were bad enough. Now I haven't flown since two weeks before 9/11 but I can say I don't plan to worry about where my gear is when I get there. I can live without skivvies but I feel naked without my Glock/LCP/Blades/Lights.

Oh, awesome! Thanks! I'll elect for the USPS store. I'm not really keen on the two week thing  but I also recall hearing something about just keeping your valuables in a locked bag within the luggage. Gotta research more.

Sorry to go off topic! But yeah, where I go on vacations, I don't need knives.

By air I use a backpack and then I put a "Pack Safe" on it, then I always put the whole pack in another carry type zippered bag and check it.
When I place the knifes in the pack I cover then with something like a boot with more stuff on top of the boot....TIME is what I am going for.
Yes they might see the knifes on xray but it will be such a hassle to get to them quickly my bag goes on by.

I usually priority or express mail a knife or two to myself at my hotel, as i rarely check luggage. If going across the pond i will buy something there and give it away or chuck it or ship it home if i like it.

Oinkaliber goes everywhere with me.

About a mile down the road from the show is a UPS store; they have boxes, packing, tape, and whatever you might need. When I fly to Atlanta for the show I like to ship my knives home via UPS; it just feels safer to me and my knives arrive in a couple of days.;)

When I went to the 2008 Knob Creek show I bought a number of knives I needed to get back to the UK. I had brought a rifle over with me and ammo for an earlier comp. My rifle was in a peilican case secured by heavy padlocks. You must ship ammo seperate to the rifle and it needs to go in the suitcase in a sealed cardboard box of a given size.

Going home I put some large blades in with the rifle. It gets personally carried on by airport staff covered in "firearms" tape. My suitcase gets the normal treatment and gets checked in. Arriving back in the UK my rifle was no problem. Just checked it off with a Customs guy. My suitcase though had been broken into by US Customs who had forced the locks. Ruined the case ! It was held together with tape. The reason given was that the empty brass cases which I wanted to bring back ( they were a "wildcat" calibre and hard to make) had triggered some machine or dog looking for explosives. The smaller knives were still in the case though and whilst they had been unwrapped they were not stolen.

We now have to use a dental ultrasonic machine if travelling back with brass which has been shot to clean out all powder residue. Moral of the story though is travel with a rifle and the knives look after themselves. Travel with knives in a suitcase and risk losing them. I figured I was lucky to get the knives in the suitcase back ... and the brass ...

Flying these days is such a pain that I prefer to take vacations that I can drive to. I like my Basic 9 for wood processing, BATAC for camp chores, CABS for food processing and a SAR3 for EDC. Could easily go down to any one of the listed knives paired with the 9 and do just fine.

yeah, agree, dialton...:/
I fly every year somewhere in warmer climates (asia, South America, Africa- where I can...), and I always try to do some "rougher" weeks-days in wilder surroundings or at least do as much treks around as much I can.
I always feel the pain what knife to bring with me, and usually I opt for something smaller or medium sized blade, which is not too heavy, what I can EDC or use it in the kitchen, or camp for different tasks, and it's not too expensive and/or not draws too much attention.
As these places usually humid, near saltwater and involve fish preparing(if I'm lucky), I tend to bring a coated or a rust resistant blade. It's mostly my F1, or it was my Black-Black RMD. the BASIC6 or 4 is a nice option, too.
For a fishing trip to Sweden I brought my SFNO LE.
But I hate flying, it became quite a torture these days. ....and expensive.

If I would succeed to realize some of my dream -month long"expedition fly fishing" tours, I would bring a CGFBM or a BWM LE, and a Basic4 or Muk....
