Bussy Combat actually used in combat?

Are Bussy Combat Knives actually used / carried often in combat situations? In one report from Iraq a fellow mentioned a lot of K-Bars and more than a few Striders. I didn't see any mention of Busses. Is that an unusual report?

Thanks,
Rich

I am currently serving overseas on a Special Forces Team. I have been carrying and using a Busse Badger Attack E model and also now using my new BUsse Active Duty. Another teammember bought one of my New Busse Natural Outlaws off of me and he uses it all the time, and another teammember bought the Badger Attack III off of me and he carries it with him. So out of my 9 man speical forces team, 1/3 of us are carrying and using Busses.

What I like about the Busses is their ruggedness and also you are not afraid to beat the hell out of them as they are covered by one of the best , if not the best, knife company warranties. (the way they are built you will probably never need to use the warranty).

There are a few other knife brands I like as well, and I like having a nice diversified collection. But if I can only take one knife with me in a severe combat situation then I would take one of my BUSSEs.

Ranger,

What time is it over there? Do you ever sleep? Keep this up and I'll have a job grindin' blades waitin' for you when you get back!

I always look to hire folks who think that 20 hour work days are normal. $1.14 per hour ain't so bad when you start multiplying it by 20!   :D ;)

Thanks, Ranger288!

Glad Busse knives are working well for you.

It just goes to show it is good to ask when
you have only one report to go on. I do appreciate
the reply.

Take care and thank you!

Rich

Welcome to the Busse forum, I'm glad you stopped by.

I hope you stick around and join in our discussions. :D:D

BTW, there are several other Military men that often hang out around here, hopefully they'll give their input here as well. :D

I'll tell you this. My Son is on active duty right now in the Marine Corps. So far, his unit has not been called to fight, but he is in Okinawa and is ready to go. If the time comes for him to go fight the bad guys, I am sending him one of my Busse knives. I have a lot of really nice custom knives, but I would still send him the Busse. Why? Because I KNOW for sure it will never fail him in case the sheit hits the fan.

Rich357,

Welcome to the forums.

I've been reading your posts, hope that we can help with your questions and concerns.

There is a wealth of information available here about all of the items you bring up. It is easily searched and obtainable by all wanting to fully investigate Busse products before buying.

The retention change with the new line back to what it had been on very early models was made with input from customers pleased with the original design. Many discussions were had related to this, as well as numerous inputs from radical adaptations of the new method, including one that connects the snap directly to the forwardmost handle hole, so that when unsnapped the snap/string stays with the knife. I'm sure you must have seen this.

There were a number of threads and discussions related to the change in the thickness of not only the Satin Jack, but the Badger, as well as the introduction of new knives (at that time), the Public Defender, Groove Master, in 3/16".

The use of Busse knives by troops in various deployments is well documented here also. I would think that your research into Busse would make you aware of the donations made by Busse to certain special operations teams on current assignment, as well as testimonials of front-line users.

If there are any other aspects of Busse products that you are curious about, please ask here. Many real-life users and long-term customers will be more than willing to either provide the information, show where to find it, or direct you to a person who can help.

Ya never know, the question you ask may start a new design or application!

Mike

Yes. I have personally carried a Busse on several deployments and in more than one combat zone. After having used other blades (and breaking them) for years, finding Busse was a Godsend. I won't use another knife in life and death situations.

Having made a "fairish" number of sheaths for Milpers, I can guarantee that these blades are in service around the world on a daily basis. You may not hear much about them outside this forum because the folks using them tend to belong to units that "do not seek publicity".

Rich,

My first Busse was a standard Natural Outlaw..... it served me on my last deployment with 7th SFG(A) and for a year and a half tour with 19th SFG(A) in the National Guard. I have since bought a Satin Jack, and had the Natural Outlaw modified to fix the few shortcomings I was able to find. I'm out of the military now, but the Outlaw still goes where I go! Once I find something that works, I stick with it.

yes believe it! spearhog even tosses um out a choppers for fun...

kind of like lawn darts for musk oxe:cool:

Sprearhead,.... I was just wondering.... if you were aiming for dinner? How did the mud sandwich with a side order of weeds taste?:p :D

Jay, having munched on muskeg on more than one occasion... I can assure you that not only was I not "aiming" for what I hit, I definitely did a catch and release.;) As I have said before... it was not one of my finer moments and I paid the price the following day by having to relocate my blade in that miserable swamp.:grumpy:

Spearhead,.... I know the feeling! I was fastroping once and at the time, carried my blade inverted on my LBV..... Mr. Murphy unsnapped the retention system... ripped the 100 MPH tape and dropped my knife, making sure to cut one of the magazine stowage pockets on the way down...... 25 ft. drop for my knife and the two M-4 mags loaded with live 5.56! Two weeks later, I was still catching flak from my teammates.:(

jj!! you are not supposed to be stropping your knife at that kind of speed and altitude... if you must play dangerous games then at least use 200 mph tape:( :(

Two Weeks? You got easy duty brother. My buddies don't let me forget about that stunt still... and it's been going on 10 years.

Then there was this particular helocast... ;)

Unlike a number of other companies who advertise every little sale they make to the military in order to generate civilian sales, we do very little of that type of ego driven self-promotion. I am at fault for this shortcoming. In spite of being advised by many in the industry to use our military sales for these purposes, I find it difficult to justify that type of promotion. I find it to be demeaning to the soldiers who are putting it on the line to use their experiences as a "pony show" in order to generate more sales. Perhaps I am looking at it in the wrong way. And perhaps, because we are fortunate enough to have such a great group of loyal customers, we do not need to resort to that type of promotion.

We like to be judged by our knives’ performance. Not by the company we keep. We put our performance on the line. Who else does this in "live demonstrations"? You won't even use all of the fingers on one hand counting the number of companies who will state ANY performance expectations concerning their knives.

As a side note, we did donate, what is now, in excess of $50,000.00 in bladeware to our front-line troops. Did anyone read about that in any of the magazines? No. Why? Because we don't wear it on our sleeve. I just finished reading BLADE Magazine's coverage of some of the knives used in Iraq without a single mention of Busse Combat. . . . It’s so moronic that it’s gotten to be laughable! Our "donations" of bladeware have exceeded what many of these other companies have "sold" to the military in the last year.

Rant mode off. . .sorry for the tirade! I’ll drink more and it will all be better! ;)
