Bussy Combat actually used in combat?

I'm not sure how to post past quotes, but if I remember correctly Jerry posted a few months back that Busse Combat does nearly 80% of it's sales in military orders, and a mere 20% in civilian. If someone with quote posting ability is so inclined to do a search of Jerrys posts going back a few months, I think that that would be a pretty interesting quote.

This would be why Okuden exists.

Thus endeth this month's issue of "shameless self promotion".

Jerry said it the way he does it. Busse knives are known by gearheads in the know, particularly, though my experiences and first hand knowlege in the SpecWar community. You know the old line about the guys who talk about it the most are getting theleast of it, well, when was the last time you saw a team member wearing a "SEAL" watch? Nothing against Luminox but I see more G-Shocks than anything else along with some Submariners and Tudors, which were once issued!

There is a fellow that worked with Marcinko, Chalker, Carracci and the operators of Red Cell (and some of Six) that showed me his 5/16ths SH Steel Heart while fondling Swamp Rats and the knife had that special look that only use and care can produce ... much like its owner. Bottom line, Busses are where the action is and where those who are ready for action are - they just don't billboard it.

damned it nimmie, you wern't supposed to tell anybody

then there was the ol nimrod special...

a sj beyond all jacks, glinting in the sunlight...

held in a weathered, leathered hand

a michalob ultra in the other,

thinking.... why in the hell did i do it?

why did i have to choose the atkins diet?

his hand raises and he takes another swig.

the ice cool beer draining down his dusty throat

a drop of the suds still lingering on his lip

his thoughts turn to kassi:p

I carried a variant SH-E in an Okuden sheath during my first deployment to the Gulf back in 2000. Used the knife ALOT on ALOT of different stuff (opening crates of ammo, prying open numerous doors, and cutting open MREs too!:D)
I bought the knife from Andy Prisco and he is the one who had the Okuden sheath made for me. I just happened to follow him over to American Tomahawk Company and; this last deployment, I only carried a ATC Brend Hatchet (which performed well in Iraq).

Mr. Busse said "We like to be judged by our knives’ performance. Not by the company we keep."
I agree with this, but I think you are ultimately "the company you keep." That is what makes Busse knives amoung some of the "elite" in the knife industry. People who use your knives are the "heros" of the modern day, and having them endorse your knives can't hurt anything either!! ;) :D

Amen to that^^^^^^^:D

Jess,

I agree with you 100%. I'm certainly not one to turn someone away because they give us the nod or an enthusiastic endorsement. In fact, I really appreciate it when someone goes out of their way to point out how pleased they are with our product. I just have a problem with manufacturers who aggressively solicit these responses and who wallow in self promotion. If it's the customer who wants to step up and say how excited they are about a product, then I think that is very cool. It's when the manufacturer does all of the bragging and gum-smacking over every sale to the military or a law enforcement agency that I find to be out of line and demeaning. Some manufacturers find it necessary to post every detail about "who" carries their equipment, and that seems to be when their egos get blown out of proportion.

We, the manufacturers, are NOT the heroes. We are simple tool designers and makers. The only bragging rights we have are centered around the demonstrable and measurable performance of our tools. That is all we can be judged by at the end of the day. The folks who use our tools in the field, in the service of their fellow man, are the heroes, and no matter how hard some makers and manufacturers try to bridge this gap, they will never be "heroes" by association.

So, to you and all of the others who have earned the title, we say thanks.

If you are ever in our neck of the woods, give me a call and I'll give you the opportunity to prove my "association theory" wrong. . . because I have little doubt that if we are seen having a beer together at the local American Legion, that you will quickly be labeled as a "drunken moron" by your simple association with me. . . . and by those who know me, oh, so well!!! ;). . . . . sad. . . but true!:D

Mr. Busse,
I have been called MUCH worse than "drunken moron" (something to do with being a Marine on liberty and those 5 *hazy* days in Thailand back in 2000! :D :barf: :)

Anyhow...
As was said before, it sickens me to see companys "brag" about their products being used by military members when their products are, more often than not, NOT used...

I love the adds for those Navy SEAL watches! I bought my brother one and it broke in the first 2 weeks! I bought him a G-shock a year ago(I have been wearing one for 3+ years!) and its still good to go!

A special thank you to you, Mr. Busse, for providing that little "something extra" that many soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen can depend on...

Although I still haven't figure out why so many people are repeat customers and buy more than one! I have only one (my variant SH-E) and it does everything I need it too! :D ;)

Though I would love a Battle Mistress with a drop point...just the thought of it and the name makes me drool...

Welcome to my world Jess! :D ;)

You say that you only have "one" Busse Combat blade???!!!!

Man, I don't know if I should be concerned, or if I should make sure that I sit next to you when they pass around the bowl of Lay's potato chips!!! :D

It's okay though. . . . every addiction has to start somewhere. . . If you stop by for that beer, I'll have you main lining INFI in no time!!! ;)

(Think of me as an INFI Pimp and my Blades as my wimmins  :D )

Oh, and now that you've mentioned that you have a SH Variant, don't be surprised if Eric Porkerson's "INFIdar V" (kinda like radar, but it detects INFI Variants) gets set off and you start being pestered with emails where he claims to be a "Certified Busse Variant Day Care Specialist" who is willing to watch your Busse Variants while you are on vacation, etc. . .

They're always after your INFI charms!

Jerry

True, true...
I only have one and, with the Busse variant I have, I have never needed more!;)

I thought about selling it, but then, it would make the buyer a little angry that HORSLEY is carved into the pommel! HA HA :D

Ahhhhh.... crowinghorse... That my friend is denial in its purest, most unadulterated form. You see, I recognize it because I used to be of the same attitude. "This knife is great!", I'd say. Or, "I don't need another knife!". Or sometimes, "Man this one was expensive but I'll never have to buy another,". Or even, "Little knives... who needs little knives?".

When I bought my SH1, I was as convinced as you are now that I wouldn't ever need, want or buy another knife. And I was partially correct. I probably don't need another knife but...

At long last, after about 8 years of holding fast to the theories above, I fell off the INFI wagon and it backed over me and drove off without me. I have yet to manage to relocate said wagon or to reboard. Things are steadily getting further and further out of control and my hoard is starting to be large enought that I am having to think of new and creative places to hide my blades so my wife is unaware of their existance.

In any case, good luck with the INFI abstinance. And while it lasts... be sure to put plenty of money in the INFI fund because when you do eventually fall off the wagon, it's going to leave a mark. :D

Truer words were never spoken. I bought a Satin Jack a few years back and never thought much about getting anything else cause I simply didn't need it. Well one day I decided another Busse knife would be nice. I figured I would start with an Assault Shaker but all hell broke loose and I bought 5 knives in 3 days.
Well that was last weekend and although it left a mark it's healing nicely. ;) Savin my cash for the new line.
Although the addiction is pretty much inevitable.(I held out for 2 or 3 years) Truth be known if your only gonna get one you picked the right one.

Ya know Les,

I'd be happy to "store" some of those for you! You even have my address and everything!

Yeesh, I thought, Andrew (Lynch) was right. Those are really expensive knives. I won't get one.

Then I kept coming back. I kept looking at the website.

I had the money. The lure got me.

"Oh well, I'll just get this one and I'll never need another. It'l be alright, it's guaranteed for life after all."

I bit the bullet and bought a BM-E. (It's still not here, but I've since seen a BM-E and several other Busses and have had the priviledge of using Andrew's -very- user SRKW Battle Rat.)

Then those Air Rescue knives caught my eye, and I ordered one of those. Oh well, I thought, now I'm out of cash to burn and that will be the end of things

Uh. No such luck. I made the last fatal mistake of trying to pass the time waiting for my blades by talking about em on this forum.

1) I had no idea it would take so long and thus I'd be here for this amount of time.

2) I've since saved up more cash and have decided to take it and use it at Blade Show.

3) I've accepted the fact that I'm addicted to INFI and have full plans of getting as much of it as I can in the future.

The saddest part is, I don't even OWN any of the stuff yet.

The INFI-addiction is strong, friend. There's no hope.

Join us so we'll have more addicts to talk to about it with. It's just that, well, we're not addicts trying to quit. :)

Brian... Thank you for your "generous" offer but no thank you. I just got done chastising Dwayne for the same sort of disgusting business practices on another thread. You remember... I sent you my GM in good faith and in pristine moral condition. Then, the next thing I know, you're posting pictures of my poor naive GM passed out and with his pants lying next to him on the floor.:grumpy:;)

Since his return home, my GM has been totally out of control and seems to have developed a penchant for cheap beer, fast wimmins, and bad cigars. I'm seriously considering finding him some group therapy and sending you the bill! :D :D

If your GM likes fast wimmen cheap beer and bad cigars you can send him to me, i'll give him a good home with like minded folks.

;)

ROFL!

Les,

He only got "micro-brews" and "high end" coffee. Maybe he's in withdrawal?

tyuio, I can't believe you are encouraging this debauchery!;)

Brian, there is certainly no shortage of good beer, hand ground coffee, and decent smoke around here. I suspect that your showing my GM the "ropes" triggered the INFI's genetic predisposition to fall prey to bad barley derivitives. After all.. he is from Wauseon.
