So... the wifey found a majority of my cache, surprisingly she wasn't nearly as pissed as I thought she would be. She has however mandated that I get a safe to make sure the kiddies don't get at em, anyone have any recommendations in regards to a combination safe or alternative that will hold let's say... (since the box size is the same) 20 boxes of BK7/9s?

Thanks,
Ark.

Dang! You get busted and you get to buy something else. You're one lucky dude.

I have a sentry safe that I'm fond of, keypad access and inexpensive for its size and rating. You might want to look into those. On your other issue (although you didn't ask), I'd surrender your remaining hidey holes to the Mrs., it might suck now, but each cache she finds will only spell higher levels of trouble for you! She probably won't care about the knives, it the deception that will get you in the end... Good luck!

I came clean, moved everything into 1 spot and told her I'd get a safe asap, but I definitely wanted to know if anyone had any good recommendations. I'll check out the Sentry safes, thanks for the input. Seriously though, I was pretty shocked about how apathetic she was about the find, really just mad I had sharp objects in the house that the kids could get at - but not really, they'd have to climb and move lots of towels and linens.

How old are your kids? I've been raising both my boy and girl since birth to know about my knives and know they are off limits. Just at 4 1/2 and 1 1/2, they already know a lot about them and the dangers involved. My son even gets a chance to hold one every once in a while (extremely supervised) when he asks just so he can get a feel for "how it works."

If they are still little, keeping them out of reach should be good enough. Otherwise, why not just get a footlocker and a good combination lock? Getting a gun safe just for knives sounds a little excessive.

a used lockable filing cabinet should be fine; it's not like they are guns.

or one of those college dorm type cedar chests with two locks and a hasp for a more serious padlock.

yes, if someone wants to get in, they can, but then it will be OBVIOUS, and what are parents for if not to punish children?

are the knives in the kitchen going to be locked up? the scissors, needles, saws?

man, i love locks, and hate nosy people.

I came clean

Ahhh, smart move! :D Upon reading Bladite, I think that his idea for a locking cabinet will work just as well, and for less. Unless you have guns, valuables, or something else of value that you want to keep on hand, a safe isn't strictly necessary. Anyhow, I'm glad you're not in too much trouble, now you can keep on buying Beckers! :D:D:D

you can get locking gun cabinets also, they're a little less flimsy than an office style cabinet, but won't cost you an arm and a leg. usually they have shelves you can customize to be how you want also. the brand that comes to mind is Stack On.

well said. i grew up in the philippines until i was 13 and when i showed up to arts and craft class without a pocket knife to use i actually got in trouble! my dad always left his guns in an unlocked drawer and often taught us how to use it in case of a burglar...the lectures became routine like keeping the doors locked, playing with matches was perfectly fine so long as it was in the backyard, etc. that we never felt like playing with them! we played with them so many times with my dad that we never felt the urge to play with them when my dad was at work...kinda like reverse psychology i guess.

Sqoon, this is exactly how I raised my son. Since he was around 4-5 yrs. old, he knew what my gun room was and knew not to go in there unless I went with him. Anytime he wanted to "look" at the knives or guns, I also went and got them, we sat at the kitchen or living room table, and he would look, ask, touch, or hold them while I was there. When we were done, he went with me back into the gun room, he got to put them into the safe, and lock it. I think this took away that "curiousity" that children have. Anytime he wanted me to look at one of his "guns", he would always act like he was "unloading" it before he handed it to me. Good for you that your children have someone to start them at such a young age to respect them.
Arkanian, my apologies, didn't mean to ramble. I had an extra 5-drawer Craftsman tool box that went to my 3-part roller box in the garage that I used. Some rubber shelf liner in the bottoms of the drawers, and it was ready to go. Small lock and it was very secure.
Good luck with your search.
Be safe.

Costco online is advertising what looks like a decent small gun safe right now for $399.99 delivered sentry safe model #em1055ep 221lbs with 20 min fire protection.

My wife didn't care about how many knives I had until she asked me what they were all worth.... I didn't lie.... she got a wee bit angry. Then I brought up her yearly 2 week european vacations, her spa days, her fiber (wool) obsession, and the fact that she eats out every day... She couldn't say a whole lot then lol. It's not the volume of knives, it's the overall cost you have into them that tends to tick off a lady (at least mine)

If it's the cost that does it, then there are more "dangerous" knifes than Bekers out there....

True, but in addition to my Beckers, I have multiple ESEE's (not too dangerous), Benchmades, spydercos, customs, Busse (she about died when I told her what I paid for the Busse blades), swamp rats, etc, etc.... I don't think it was the Beckers that got me in trouble. lmao!

LOL!:D
I'm new to this knife-game, so far I've come to Beckers...

(And some Moras... and some Karesuando... and some :foot: )

just look on craigslist for filecabinets...

if you have to spend more than $50 on this, you're doing it wrong.

imho.

+1 on the spare toolbox idea. Unless you have guns and valuables, look for a locking toolbox. And give me your address. Being only a short train ride into NYC from white plains, I can head down to check on them for you in the event of an emergency :D

Thanks for the great input everyone, yeah, they have access to a s* load of sharp objects and they're fine, I think the wife is compensating my punishment by making sure I understand those are "my" sharp objects. But they know better and they really are up high and away, my wife only found em because she decided to do some pre-Spring cleaning.

Have a 4 year old and 2 year old daughters, the older is learning to cut with kitchen knives as you said, under extreme supervision, but the younger is just way too young to understand yet. My daughters know what is off limits but let's be real, we knew what was off limits in our fathers' stuff and we still went there. The knives are stored in my bedroom closet on the top shelf where even I need a step ladder to get up to.
